Lucy Waverman is a Toronto-based food journalist, editor, columnist, food consultant and cookbook author. Her Wednesday food column "Weekend Menu" and Saturday column "Fresh Tastes" appear in The Globe and Mail , Canada's national newspaper, and she is the Food Editor of Food & Drink, a magazine published by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. She has done extensive recipe and product development for major companies, restaurants and public relations firms. She has also appeared on television and radio shows across Canada and the United States, including 12 years with Citytv's CityLine . [1]
Waverman is the author of eight cookbooks, including the award-winning Home for Dinner, and is the recipient of Cuisine Canada's 2005 Gold Medal Award for Cookbooks for A Matter of Taste, [2] which she co-wrote with friend and wine writer James Chatto. A Matter of Taste was also a finalist for the prestigious James Beard Entertaining Award. [3] Her cookbook Lucy's Kitchen won the Silver Medal at Cuisine Canada's 2007 Canadian Culinary Book Awards. Her most recent cookbook, The Flavour Principle, won the Taste Canada Gold Medal for Best Cookbook and the 2014 Gourmand Award for Best Food and Drinks Book. The Flavour Principle was named one of the Ten Best Cookbooks of Spring by United States-based Publishers Weekly. [4]
In 2005, Waverman was presented with the Gold Award in Food Media/Journalism by the Ontario Hostelry Association for her efforts in mentoring young talent and for educating the public about cooking and world cuisines through her writing and teaching. [5] She was honoured with The Women's Culinary Network's 2013 Woman of the Year award and was selected to represent Canada in a cultural exchange with Korea. She also represented Canada at the S. Pellegrino Cooking Cup in Venice, Italy in 2013. In 2014, she taught as the Joseph Hoare Gastronomic Writer in Residence at the Stratford Chefs School [6]
Waverman trained at Le Cordon Bleu, has an Ontario Teachers' Certificate and a degree in journalism. From 1972 to 1990, she owned and directed The Cooking School, a Toronto school devoted to the teaching of good cooking. [1]
Waverman believes strongly in volunteerism and was on the board of the International Association of Culinary Professionals and chaired their Julia Child Cookbook Awards. She has also served on the board of Second Harvest and of the Necessary Angel Theatre Company. Her work is seen in many charity cookbooks including the original Impossible Pie for Sick Kids Hospital, which she edited. [1]
James Andrews Beard was an American chef, cookbook author, teacher and television personality. He pioneered television cooking shows, taught at The James Beard Cooking School in New York City and Seaside, Oregon, and lectured widely. He emphasized American cooking, prepared with fresh, wholesome, American ingredients, to a country just becoming aware of its own culinary heritage. Beard taught and mentored generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts. He published more than twenty books, and his memory is honored by his foundation's annual James Beard Awards.

Fuchsia Charlotte Dunlop is an English writer and cook who specialises in Chinese cuisine, especially Sichuan cuisine. She is the author of seven books, including the autobiographical Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper (2008). Irena Chalmers-Taylor was an author and food commentator/essayist, teacher and culinary mentor. Named "the culinary oracle of 100 cookbooks" by noted American restaurant critic and journalist, Gael Greene, Chalmers was recognized as the pioneer of the single subject cookbook. Her life story revealed an unlikely journey to becoming a James Beard Foundation "Who's Who" of Food and Beverage in America 1988 Award Recipient.
Elisabeth Lambert Ortiz was a British food writer who popularized Latin American cuisine in the United States and the United Kingdom. Holland is an alumna of Bravo TV's Top Chef, where she competed on the 15th season. She was the owner of Brown Sugar Kitchen in Oakland, California, which received national recognition and multiple Michelin Bib Gourmand awards.
Vikram Vij is an Indian-born Canadian chef, cookbook author, and television personality. He is co-owner, with his ex-wife Meeru Dhalwala, of the Indian cuisine restaurants Vij's Restaurant and Rangoli Restaurant in Vancouver, British Columbia. He also owns My Shanti, a restaurant in South Surrey, BC. In 2014, Vij was announced as a new "dragon" investor on the Canadian reality show Dragons' Den for its ninth season and departed at the end of the season.
Paula Wolfert is an American author of nine books on cooking and the winner of numerous cookbook awards including what is arguably the top honor given in the food world: The James Beard Foundation Medal For Lifetime Achievement.
