Luiz Virgilio "Virgulino" Castro de Moura (Rio de Janeiro, August 23, 1952) [1] [2] is a retired Brazilian judoka. He was a seven time national champion and represented Brazil at the 1980 Summer Olympics and 1981 World Judo Championships. [3] He is considered one of the most renowned Brazilian judokas in the 1980s. [4] [5]
A trainee under Georges Mehdi, Castro competed many years while served in Brazilian military. [6] He amassed a number of championship wins both in and outside Brazil, winning seven times the national championship at the weigh categories of médio and meio-pessado. [7] Eventually he was elected for the Brazilian Olympic team and represented the country at 1980 in Moscow, where he had a victory over Tsancho Atanasov and a loss to Jean-Luc Rougé. He would compete at the World Championships in Maastricht the next year, losing to the legendary Yasuhiro Yamashita. He then retired and opened a judo academy, closing shortly after in order to become a businessman. [6] In 2014, he returned for the World Veterans Championships, placing third. [2] He is uncle to fellow judo champion David Moura. [8]

Flávio Vianna de Ulhôa Canto is a Brazilian judoka who competed in Men's 81 kg Judo. He won the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He is founder and president of the Instituto Reação, and also presenter of the TV shows Corujão do Esporte on TV Globo and Sensei on SporTV.
Kosovo made its Olympic debut as a member state in 2016. Its team is organized by the Olympic Committee of Kosovo (OCK), created in 1992 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee on 9 December 2014. It won its first medal in its debut appearance in 2016, when judoka Majlinda Kelmendi took gold in the women's -52 kg category. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Nora Gjakova won gold in the women's judo -57 kg class, and Distria Krasniqi won gold in the women's judo -48 kg class.

Rafaela Lopes Silva is a Brazilian judoka. She won gold medals at the World Judo Championships of 2013 and 2022 and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the –57 kg weight division. Currently, she occupies the graduation third sergeant in the Navy of Brazil and integrates the Center of Physical Education Admiral Nunes (CEFAN), the Military Sports Department.
Rustam Orujov is an Azerbaijani judoka. He competed in the men's 73 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics; after defeating Gideon van Zyl in the second round, he was eliminated by Mansur Isaev in the third round. He won the silver medal in the men's 73 kg event at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

João Gabriel Schlittler is a Brazilian judoka, who played for the heavyweight category. In 2007, he won a silver medal for his designated category at the Pan American Games, and bronze at the World Championships, coincidentally in his home city. Schlitter stands 1.97 metres tall and weighs 110 kilograms (243 lb). He is also currently a member of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, a famous sport club in Rio de Janeiro.
Orkhan Safarov is an Azerbaijani judoka. He won the bronze at the 2013 World Judo Championships in the category –60 kg.

Danielle Zangrando is a retired Brazilian judoka who competed in the women's lightweight category. She picked up a total of thirty medals in her career, including three from the Pan American Games, and a bronze from the 1995 World Judo Championships in Chiba, Japan, and also appeared in the 57-kg class in two editions of the Olympic Games. Growing up in Santos, Zangrando took up judo at the age of 5 following her brother to the dojo of sensei Paulo Duarte. Throughout most of her sporting career, Zangrando trained under Duarte as a full-fledged member of the judo squad for Santos FC Judô.
Daniela Duque Estrada Polzin is a Brazilian judoka who competed in the women's extra-lightweight category. She held a 2008 Brazilian senior title for her own division, picked up a total of seventeen medals in her career, including a silver from the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, and also represented Brazil in the 57-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout most of her sporting career, Polzin also trained as a full-fledged member of Universidade Gama Filho's judo squad.
Tanzania competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Seven athletes, five men and two women, competed in five events across three sports, but did not win any medals. Hilal Hemed Hilal, however, set a new national record in the men's 50 m freestyle event. Four athletes took part in track and field athletics, all in marathons, while two participated in the swimming tournament's 50 m freestyle category. The flagbearer for the opening ceremony was Andrew Thomas Mlugu, who was Tanzania's first Olympic judoka. His counterpart in the closing ceremony was Alphonce Felix Simbu, who had earned the nation's best finish at the Games by placing fifth in the men's marathon. Prior to these Games, Tanzania had sent athletes to twelve editions of the Summer Olympics.

David Moura Pereira da Silva is a Brazilian judoka. He won a silver medal at the 2017 World Judo Championships in Budapest. In 2020, he won one of the bronze medals in the men's +100 kg event at the 2020 Pan American Judo Championships held in Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2021, he competed in the men's +100 kg event at the 2021 Judo World Masters held in Doha, Qatar.
