Luke Pearson (born 12 October 1987) [1] [2] is a British illustrator, cartoonist, and comic book writer best known for the Hilda series of comics for Nobrow Press, and Hilda , the Netflix series based on the comics. [3] He has also storyboarded episodes of the Cartoon Network series Adventure Time , during its fifth and seventh seasons. [4] [5] [6] [7]

Early life

Luke Pearson was born in Stockton-on-Tees, but grew up mainly in Tamworth. His father worked in IT and his mother was a solicitor's secretary. In their spare time, his father played and recorded music and his mother painted. [8]

Bibliography

His first comic was published in 2008 as part the anthology Ctrl.Alt.Shift Unmasks Corruption, edited by Paul Gravett. His first published drawing was in Bizarre magazine "of a little kid holding a knife with his mouth all stitched up". [8]

In 2010, Nobrow Press published Hildafolk , the first of a series of graphic novels about a young girl's adventures in a world inspired by Scandinavian folklore.

In 2018, Netflix released the first season of Hilda , a show based on the Hildafolk series.

Adventure Time is an American fantasy animated television series created by Pendleton Ward and co-produced by Frederator Studios for Cartoon Network. The series follows the adventures of a boy named Finn and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake —a dog with the power to change size and shape at will. Finn and Jake live in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo, where they interact with Princess Bubblegum, the Ice King, Marceline, BMO, and others. The series is based on a 2007 short film that aired on Nicktoons. After the short became a viral hit on the Internet, Nickelodeon's executives passed on its option before Cartoon Network commissioned a full-length series from Fred Seibert and Ward, which was previewed on March 11, 2010. Nobrow is known for its bi-annual eponymous anthology, for publishing the works of Blexbolex, Luke Pearson, Jon McNaught and Jesse Moynihan, and for exposing the English-speaking world to works by European artists. The publisher is seen as a champion of DIY culture.

Hilda is an animated television series based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Luke Pearson. Produced by Silvergate Media and Mercury Filmworks, the series follows the adventures of fearless Hilda, an 11-year-old blue-haired girl who, along with her mother Johanna and her deerfox Twig, moves to the fictional city of Trolberg after their old residency in the outskirts of a forest is destroyed by a giant. Though moving away from the wild and into a bustling city, Hilda still manages to befriend even the most dangerous of monsters.

Hilda is a British children's graphic novel series written and illustrated by Luke Pearson and published by Nobrow Press. A television series adaptation was released on Netflix on 21 September 2018. Following the success of the Netflix series, several story book tie-ins were published.
