Lynette Diaz (born 1969) is an American-born singer-songwriter living in Wellington, New Zealand. Her song "Living Before Dying" was awarded an Honorable Mention at the 2008 Peacedriven Songwriting Contest [1] and also at the 12th Annual Unisong Songwriting Competition. [2]

Early life

Diaz, who is of Mexican descent, was born in Colorado, United States. She subsequently attended school in New Mexico where she graduated in 1987. [3] [4]

Diaz released her first CD Lyrics in My Head in 2008. The album received critical acclaim [6] and was added to radio playlists. [7] Diaz performed and promoted the album in New Zealand, [8] [9] [10] and also in the United States. [11]

One song, "Living Before Dying", was lifted from the album and entered in the 2008 Peacedriven Songwriting Contest. Facing more than 400 entrants, Diaz was awarded an Honorable Mention. [12] The same song was also entered in the social/political song category at the 12th Annual Unisong Songwriting Contest. Once again, "Living Before Dying" was awarded an Honorable Mention.

Diaz also took time out from recording her album to perform at a charity event to raise funds for the RSPCA. [13] [14]

Among her many influences, Diaz cites Patty Griffin, Carole King and Brandi Carlile. [5] Her next release will include a tribute to American poet Emily Dickinson.

Diaz previously hosted the New Zealand radio programme FemAcoustica on Plains FM 96.9. [15]

In 2019, Diaz was awarded an inaugural Women's Fund Award by the Christchurch Foundation, in recognition of her fostering of women empowerment. [16]

Moana Maree Maniapoto is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and documentary maker. Widely considered one of New Zealand's most successful indigenous acts, her music is described as a fusion of traditional Māori haka, chants and taonga puoro, with contemporary soul, reggae and classical styles. Moana was briefly married to New Zealand politician and radio personality Willie Jackson, during which time she was known as Moana Maniapoto-Jackson; they divorced in 2001. In 2016, Moana was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.

Robyn Landis is an American author, public speaker and folk singer who was born in Brooklyn, NY, and has lived in Seattle, WA, and Tucson, AZ United States. At age 25 she wrote a book called Bodyfueling which was published by Warner Books and became a surprise bestseller. "Bodyfueling" is a term she coined and has used to promote her philosophy of increased health through knowing the important details about how the body works and the important interactions between nutrition and exercise. Bodyfueling is an approach to health and fitness that emphasizes a thorough understanding of how the human body uses food and reacts to exercise. Love in Motion is the fourth studio album by New Zealand singer-songwriter Anika Moa. The album's underlying theme is love. Moa's civil partner, Azaria Universe, was her biggest influence when writing the album. With Love in Motion, Moa moved from the folk and country pop influences of In Swings the Tide to a pop rock sound. The album was released by EMI Records internationally on 12 March 2010, with releases in Moa's home country and Australia following on 5 April and 10 September, respectively. <i>Beastwars</i> (album) 2011 studio album by Beastwars

Beastwars is the eponymous debut studio album of the New Zealand-based heavy metal band Beastwars. The album was released on 9 May 2011 through New Zealand independent label Destroy Records, and was distributed by Universal Music. Beastwars received general critical acclaim from New Zealand publications, and reached an RIANZ album chart placing of #15. The album enjoyed further success at the 2011 New Zealand Music Awards, receiving a nomination for best New Zealand rock album and winning the award for best album artwork or packaging. It was also shortlisted for the 2012 Taite Music Prize.

Em-Haley Walker, known professionally as Theia, is an alt-pop artist from New Zealand. In 2016 she released her debut major label single, 'Roam' with her accompanying EP Theia released on 30 June 2017. The EP debuted at No. 15 in New Zealand's Official Top 40, and at No. 3 in the NZ Album Chart. Her second EP Not Your Princess was released on 12 April 2019 and in May 2020 Theia released her 99% Angel mixtape.
