Lynx Vilden

Lynx Vilden is a British primitive survival expert known for her wilderness survival skills. [1]

Vilden was born in London, England. [2] She moved to the United States at the age of 21. In the US, she changed her name to Lynx Vilden. [3] [4]

Off-grid living

Since 1991, Vilden has both practiced and taught wild-living skills. [4] [5] Since around 2000, she has run a series of intensive rewilding workshops that she calls "Stone Age projects" in various locations in the US and Europe. [3] In them, participants learn how to make shoes, hunting tools, shelters and how to start fires. [3] [6]

The National Geographic film Living Wild documents one of her month-long workshops on stone-age skills. [7] In 2016, she was included in the Channel 5 television series New Lives in the Wild. [8] In 2020, she was included in the Channel 4 series Surviving The Stone Age – Adventure To The Wild. [9]

Edward Michael "Bear" Grylls is a British adventurer, writer, television presenter and former SAS trooper who is also a survival expert. He first drew attention after embarking on a number of notable adventures, including several world records in hostile environments, and then became widely known for his television series Man vs. Wild (2006–2011). He is also involved in a number of wilderness survival television series in the UK and US, such as Running Wild with Bear Grylls and The Island with Bear Grylls. In July 2009, Grylls was appointed as The Scout Association’s youngest-ever Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories at the age of 35, a post he has held for a second term since 2015 and in 2024 became the second longest serving Chief Scout after Robert Baden-Powell. On 5 September 2024, Grylls was succeeded as Chief Scout by Dwayne Fields.

Les Stroud is a Canadian survival expert, filmmaker and musician best known as the creator, writer, producer, director, cameraman and host of the television series Survivorman. Stroud was named Chief Scout by Scouts Canada on 22 November 2021. After a short career behind the scenes in the music industry, Stroud became a full-time wilderness guide, survival instructor and musician based in Huntsville, Ontario. Stroud has produced survival-themed programming for The Outdoor Life Network, The Discovery Channel, The Science Channel, and YTV. The survival skills imparted from watching Stroud's television programs have been cited by several people as the reason they lived through harrowing wilderness ordeals.

They may withdraw from the competition at any time, or be removed due to failing a medical check-in. The contestant who remains the longest wins a grand prize of $500,000 (USD). The seasons have been filmed across a range of remote locations, usually on first nations-controlled lands, including northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Nahuel Huapi National Park in Argentina, Patagonia, Northern Mongolia, Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories, and Chilko Lake in interior British Columbia.
