Lysle E. Johnston Jr. is an American orthodontist.

He was raised in East Jordan, Michigan, and began study at the University of Michigan College of Dentistry in 1957. He worked under James Scott at the University of Belfast in Ireland from 1961 to 1962, returning to earn an orthodontic Master of Science degree from Michigan in 1964. Johnston attended Case Western Reserve University for doctoral studies in anatomy, graduating in 1970. He taught at Case Western from 1971 to 1976, when he joined the Saint Louis University faculty. [1] [2] Johnston was appointed Robert W. Browne Professor of Dentistry and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Michigan in 1991, and served until retirement in 2005. [3]

Johnston has received several awards from many professional and associations and learned societies, among them the American Board of Orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. [4] He was the 2018 recipient of the American Association of Orthodontists Lifetime Achievement Award in Orthodontic Research. [5]

Albert H. Ketcham was an American orthodontist and a past president of the American Society of Orthodontists.

Dr. Martin Dewey (1881–1933) was an American orthodontist and a past president of the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association. Dewey represented the "New School" of Edward Angle in the great Extraction Debate of 1911 held in New York City.

Harry Estes Kelsey was an American Orthodontist who graduated from Angle School of Orthodontia in 1908. He was first Orthodontist in the State of Maryland.

Charles Augustus Hawley was an American orthodontist who is known for developing the Hawley retainer which is used in the field of Orthodontics. He attended Angle School of Orthodontia and graduated from there in 1905.

David L. Turpin is an American Orthodontist who was the Editor-in Chief for The Angle Orthodontist from 1988 to 1999 and American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from 1999 to 2010.

Won-Sik Yang is a South Korean orthodontist who is known for his contributions in establishing the Korean Association of Orthodontists (KAO). He served as the first editor-in-chief for the Korean Journal of Orthodontics (KJO) in 1970.

George Northcroft was a British orthodontist who is known for his contributions in the formation of the British Orthodontic Society. The society was initially formed in 1907 as British Society for the Study of Orthodontics (BSSO) and the name later changed to British Orthodontic Society. He also played an important role in formation of the Dental Act of 1921 which made dentistry a profession in Great Britain.
