Lădești is a commune located in Vâlcea County, Oltenia, Romania. It is composed of ten villages: Cermegești, Chiricești, Ciumagi, Dealu Corni, Găgeni, Lădești, Măldărești, Olteanca, Păsculești and Popești.

The Paris Commune was a French revolutionary government that seized power in Paris from 18 March to 28 May 1871. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71, the French National Guard had defended Paris, and working-class radicalism grew among its soldiers. Following the establishment of the Third Republic in September 1870 and the complete defeat of the French Army by the Germans by March 1871, soldiers of the National Guard seized control of the city on March 18. They killed two French army generals and refused to accept the authority of the Third Republic, instead attempting to establish an independent government.

The Cerna is a left tributary of the river Olteț in Romania. It discharges into the Olteț near Budești. It flows through the communes Vaideeni, Slătioara, Stroești, Copăceni, Lăpușata, Lădești, Stănești, Fârtățești, Măciuca, Valea Mare and Bălcești. Its length is 164 km (102 mi) and its basin size is 618 km2 (239 sq mi).
The Cernișoara is a left tributary of the river Cerna in Romania. It discharges into the Cerna in Lădești. It flows through the villages Cernișoara, Armășești, Groși, Modoia, Saioci, Ciocâltei and Roești. Its length is 28 km (17 mi) and its basin size is 89 km2 (34 sq mi).
