M Harun-Ar-Rashid (born 15 February 1948) is a retired Bangladesh Army general who served as the Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army from 24 December 2000 to 16 June 2002. The Bangladesh government awarded him the title of Bir Pratik for his bravery in the war of independence. [1]
Harun-Ar-Rashid was commissioned in infantry on 6 September 1970 from 24 War Course of PMA. Harun-Ar-Rashid was made army Chief on 24 December 2000,taking over from General Mustafizur Rahman. [2] He was the army chief when one British and two Danish surveyors were kidnapped in Chittagong Hill tracts by suspected tribal unsatisfied with the peace deal. [3] Harun-Ar-Rashid was the first president of Army Golf club. [4]
Harun-Ar-Rashid is the vice president of Sector Commanders forum. [5] In 2015 he accused Pakistan of “threatening our national security”. [6] He supported increased government expenditure on defense but believed health and housing should get a higher priority. [7]
Harun-Ar-Rashid was the president of Destiny Group. He was arrested when Destiny was accused of fraud and irregularities. He was granted bail on the grounds of "Health" and "Social Status". [8] [9]

Lt. Col. Abu TaherBU was a Bangladeshi military officer and war hero. He first served in the Pakistan Army,and later defected to the Bangladesh Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He crossed into India around early August and reported to the Indian authorities. After a week screening at Dehradun,India,Taher reported to Kolkata,Bangladesh Provincial government at 8 Theatre Rd. He was ordered to report to Sector 11 of Mukti Bahini under command of Major Ziaur Rahman,he became the sector commander after him. He served in BDF from end of August to 2 November 1971. He was awarded the medal Bir Uttom for his gallantry in the liberation war. He was released from military service by Indian military medical board in Pune,India after his leg was amputated. After independence,he was inducted into the Bangladesh Army for administrative retirement with legacy rank of lieutenant colonel. After settling in with family,the government of Bangladesh appointed him with employment at Kumilla. Later Taher turned into a political activist and leader of the left-wing Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal.
Motiur Rahman Nizami was a politician,former Minister of Bangladesh,Islamic scholar,writer and the former leader of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He is noted for leading Al-Badr during the Bangladesh Liberation War. On 29 October 2014,he was convicted of masterminding the Demra massacre by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. Nizami was the Member of Parliament for the Pabna-1 constituency from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2006. He also served as the Bangladeshi Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Industry.
Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury was a Bangladesh Army general who was 11th Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army from 16 June 2002 to 15 June 2005. He was the last officer to serve in this position who had first been commissioned by and served with the Pakistani Army,before the Liberation War of 1971. He served for two years before the war.

He is an executive board member of the World Health Organization (WHO),having previously served on the board twice before.

The military coup in Bangladesh on August 15 of 1975 was launched by mid-ranking army officers in order to assassinate founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,whose administration post-independence grew corrupt and reportedly authoritarian until he established a one-party state-based government led by the socialist party Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League.
