World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) was an American mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion founded in 2001. It was purchased by Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), in 2006. In its final incarnation, it was made up of 3 weight classes: 135 lb (61 kg), 145 lb (66 kg) and 155 lb (70 kg). To accommodate the smaller fighters, WEC's cage was 25 feet (7.6 m) in diameter—5 feet (1.5 m) smaller than the standard UFC cage. The smaller cage is now used by UFC for selected events.
Maximum Fighting Championship is a Canadian mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion based in Edmonton, Alberta. MFC’s former home, in Canada, is the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta, located just outside Edmonton, Alberta, but has also held events at the Edmonton Expo Centre. MFC events are broadcast on The Fight Network, AXS TV in North America and most recently TSN2.
Jason Anthony MacDonald is a Canadian former mixed martial artist. A professional from 1999 until 2013, he is perhaps best remembered for his two stints in the UFC, but also fought for King of the Cage, and the Maximum Fighting Championship. Known for his grappling skills, 19 of his 25 career wins came by way of submission.
Robert Lawrence MacDonald is a Canadian mixed martial artist. From 2002 until 2009, he competed in various high-profile promotions including the UFC, Maximum Fighting Championship, and was a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter 2, where he was the first Canadian to fight on the show. He later returned to competition for The Ultimate Fighter 30 in 2022.

Andrew Robert Fickett is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the Lightweight division. A professional competitor since 1999, Fickett has also formerly competed for the UFC, Strikeforce, DREAM, Cage Rage, the XFC, MFC, and King of the Cage.
MFC 22: Payoff was a mixed martial arts event held by the Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC), it was held on October 2, 2009, at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta. It featured the return of Jason MacDonald, who was competing in his first fight since being released by the UFC, against Travis Lutter, also competing in his first fight since being released by the UFC. The co-main event featured Antonio McKee defending the MFC lightweight title against Brazilian Carlo Prater.
