Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows striking and grappling, both standing and on the ground, using techniques from various combat sports and martial arts. The first documented use of the term mixed martial arts was in a review of UFC 1 by television critic Howard Rosenberg in 1993. The term gained popularity when newfullcontact.com, then one of the largest websites covering the sport, hosted and republished the article. The question of who actually coined the term is subject to debate.
Maximum Fighting Championship is a Canadian mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion based in Edmonton, Alberta. MFC’s former home, in Canada, is the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta, located just outside Edmonton, Alberta but has also held events at the Edmonton Expo Centre. MFC events are broadcast on The Fight Network, AXS TV in North America and most recently TSN2. MFC is known to be the biggest MMA promotion in Canada and one of the top MMA shows in the World. MFC has notable Canadian fighters, such as Ryan Jimmo, Graham Spencer, Tom Watson and Douglas Lima, plus MMA veterans, such as Jason MacDonald, Thales Leites, Jay Silva, Trevor Prangley, and Paul Daley.
The River Cree is a river in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland which runs through Newton Stewart and into the Solway Firth. It forms part of the boundary between the counties of Wigtownshire and Kirkcudbrightshire. The tributaries of the Cree are the Minnoch, Trool, Penkiln and Palnure which drain from the Range of the Awful Hand, the labyrinthine range of mountains and lochs, bogs, burns and crags, rising at its highest to The Merrick, Galloway, 12 miles to the north and visible from Newton Stewart.

Douglas Lima is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who competes in the welterweight division of Bellator MMA, where he is a former two-time Bellator Welterweight World Champion. He is also the former MFC Welterweight Champion. He is currently ranked the #9 Middleweight fighter in the world by MMA ranking site Fight Matrix.
Jesse Juarez is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the Welterweight division of the Absolute Championship Berkut. A professional competitor since 2006, Juarez has also formerly competed for Strikeforce, Bellator MMA, the MFC, and Shark Fights. He holds a win at Welterweight over current UFC Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.
HDNet Fights was a US based television outlet for various MMA and combat sports promotions. Its broadcast lineup included DREAM, Sengoku, K-1, Strikeforce, Adrenaline MMA, M-1 Global, Ring of Honor, Maximum Fighting Championship, Affliction Entertainment, Urban Conflict Championship, BAMMA, XFC, Superior Challenge, CFA, Titan Fighting Championships and the now defunct IFL among others. As of February 19, 2010, it has promoted two events of its own and broadcast 60 events by other promotions. After July 2, 2012 when HDNet re-branded itself as AXS TV, HDNet Fights was re-branded as AXS TV Fights.
Glover Teixeira was forced off the card due to visa problems, and was replaced with UFC veteran Rodney Wallace. [2]

He is a former member of the Brazilian National Wrestling Team, and has also competed in the WEC, Impact FC, PFC, and Shooto. As of 12 August 2019, he is #9 in the UFC light heavyweight rankings.
Rodney Wallace is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the Heavyweight division. A professional competitor since 2008, he has competed for the UFC, Bellator, the MFC, M-1 Global, KSW, and Absolute Championship Berkut.
