MFR Souls is a South African amapiano music duo founded in 2012 by Tumelo Nedondwe and Tumelo Mabe, both of whom are DJ and music producers from Katlehong in the East Rand of Johannesburg. [1] Their hit single "Love You Tonight" was commercial success certified platinum in South Africa.

History

2009-2013: Early years

They met in 2009 at an event in Tokoza and eventually formed their group in 2013, Ma-Ero & Force Reloaded and later was named MFR Souls. [2]

2014-2019: The beginning, Bless The Souls, Scorpion Kings

In December 2015, their 5 tracks Extended Play Bless The Souls was released.

On October 4, 2019, they released a single "Love You Tonight" featuring Sha Sha, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa. [3] The song was certified platinum in South Africa. [4] At the 26th ceremony of South African Music Awards "Love You Tonight" was nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Music Video. [5] Their collaborative album Scorpion Kings with Kabza De Small, Virgo Deep and DJ Maphorisa won Best Produced Album of the Year at SAMA 26 awards. [6] On November 8, 2019, their Extended Play The beginning was released. [7]

2020-present: Musical Kings, Healers Of The Soul, T-Squared

In early 2020, their single "Amanikiniki" featuring Kamo Mphela and Bontle Smith was released. The song debuted number 3 on RAM charts and was certified platinum with sales of 50 000 units. [8] [9] "Amanikiniki" was nominated for Record of the Year (fan-voted) and Music Video of The Year at 27th South African Music Awards [10] and Song Of the Year at MAMA awards. [11] On August 14, 2020, their second studio album Musical Kings was released. [12] The album features Bontle Smith, Tshego, Zano, J’Something and Manu Worldstar. [13]

On May 14, 2021, they released a single "Abahambayo" featuring Mzulu Kakhulu, Khobzn Kiavalla and DJ T-Man SA. [14]

In October 12, they teased their second studio album Healers Of The Soul, released on November 12, 2021. [15] [16] In November 4, album pre-order were made available.

On April 1, 2022, their EP T-squared was released in South Africa. [17]

In early May 2022, they were featured on Freedom Sounds: From Kwaito to Amapiano documentary by Spotify. [18]

On May 5, 2023, the duo released their long-awaited single, "Bawo" featuring Russell Zuma, Shane907 & Locco MusiQ [19]

Themba Sekowe, known professionally as DJ Maphorisa, is a South African DJ, record producer, singer, and songwriter. As a record producer with a blend of house music, amapiano and afropop, he has worked with and has received production credits from several notable artists, including Wizkid, Sizwe Alakine, Kwesta, Uhuru, Drake, Black Coffee, Major Lazer, Runtown, C4 Pedro, TRESOR, Kabza De Small, Era Istrefi, Mpura, Young Stunna and Killer Kau. He was signed to Kalawa Jazmee Records prior to establishing his own record label, BlaqBoy Music.

Lindokuhle Mgedeza, known professionally as Mlindo the Vocalist, is a South African singer and songwriter. He initially gained notable recognition following his debut single, "Amablesser", taken from his debut album, Emakhaya (2018).

Amanda "Ami" Faku is a South African singer, performer and songwriter. Born and raised in the township of eZinyoka, Gqeberha. Faku rose to fame as a contestant on The Voice SA season 2 in 2017, prior getting recognition in the music industry.

Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro, professionally known as Sha Sha, is a Zimbabwean-born singer-songwriter from Mutare. Hailed by many as the "Queen of amapiano", her career began in 2011, at the age of 17 and later was discovered by Audius Mtawarira. She gained popularity for her collaborations with South African amapiano producers such as DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small.

The 26th Annual South African Music Awards were held on 3–7 August 2020. Unlike previous years shows, the ceremony was broadcast as a five-night event, with the first four episodes being 30 minutes long, while the fifth one was a 45-minute grand finale. It was held virtually due to the effects of COVID-19 lockdowns, and for the first time, the award show was to be broadcast live on Multichoice's Mzansi Magic Channel. This was the first year the show was broadcast live via My Muze by Vodacom.

Peleka Lwana, known professionally as Nia Pearl, is a South African singer and songwriter. She gained popularity for her collaborations with South African Amapiano producers such as DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small.

TDK Macassette, whose real name is Thandeka Nompumelelo Mkhwanazi, is a South African dancer, singer, radio host and media personality. She got her break in the music industry when she provided corporate services to DJ Maphorisa after they had been to a corporate gig. She is the founder of a communication management company called Tdeeiosion.

Tumelo Manyoni known professionally as Mr JazziQ, is a South African Amapiano DJ and record producer. He is best known for being a former member of the amapiano DJ duo, JazziDisciples.

The 27th Annual South African Music Awards were the 27th edition of the South African Music Awards. The award show was broadcast live on SABC 1 on July 31, 2021 and was held virtually due to the effects of COVID-19 lockdowns.

RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE is an amapiano collaborative album by TRESOR, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. It was released on 9 April 2021 and features guest appearances from local South African musicians such as Tyler ICU, Mas Musiq and the Cape Town band Beatenberg. The 14-track album is composed of TRESOR's vocals, which are combined from genres such as amapiano, Kwassa kwassa, rumba, salsa, bubblegum and Afrobeats. The album also alternates between Swahili, French, English, Zulu and Lingala.

<i>Motion</i> (Tresor album) 2021 studio album by TRESOR

Motion is the fourth studio album by Congolese-born singer TRESOR. It was released through Jacquel Entertainment Group on October 15, 2021, and features guest appearances from local South African musicians such as Ami Faku, Msaki, Da Capo, Sun-El Musician and Scorpion Kings.

"Mali Eningi" is a song recorded by South African singer-songwriter and rapper Big Zulu featuring Riky Rick and Intaba Yase Dubai. It was released as the lead single of his third studio album, Ichwane Lenyoka (2021), on November 20, 2020, by Inkabi Records.

Sandile Fortune Msimango, popularly known by his stage name Young Stunna is a South African singer. He is known for his hit singles "Bopha" and "Adiwele". He has also extensively worked with record producers DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. Young Stunna is Xhosa and uses Xhosa and Zulu in most of his songs.

"No Ties" is a song by South African R&B singer Tshego, released as the only single from his first studio album Pink Panther. The song was produced by South African record producer Alie Keys, and Tshego. It was ranked at number 12 on OkayAfrica's list of 20 Best South African Songs of 2019. An amapiano remix with an additional feature from South African amapiano musical duo MFR Souls, released on 7 February 2020. The song received a nomination at the 26th South African Music Awards for Record of the Year in 2020.

Thabo Ngubane, is a South African DJ and record producer professionally known as Mas Musiq. He came to prominence subsequent to the release of his singles "Sengizwilwe" and "Uzozisola", of which the latter was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).

Kamogelo Matona, popularly known as Kamo Mphela, is a South African dancer and singer. She became an internet celebrity after she posted a video of her dancing on her social media account.

Kabelo Petrus Motha is a South African DJ and record producer, popularly known as Kabza De Small. He is a major figure in the amapiano genre of house music. Aside from his solo career, Motha is a member of the Scorpion Kings. Motha gained international recognition after the release of "Umshove", in 2018.

KOA II Part 1 is the fourth studio album by South African DJ Kabza De Small, released on June 16, 2022, through Piano Hub. The album features guest appearances from DJ Maphorisa, Ami Faku, Msaki, Young Stunna, Kwesta, Bob Mabena, Mhaw Keys and more.

Nkosazana Nolwazi Kimberly Nzama professionally known as Nkosazana Daughter, is a South African vocalist, singer and songwriter. She gained prominence after releasing her 14-track debut album that featured Master KG, Kabza de Small, DJ Maphorisa, Chronical Deep, Tyler ICU, Major League DJz, Makhadzi, and Young Jonn, among others.She appeared on a collaboration "Sofa Silahlane" with Master KG and Lowsheen, released 12 May 2022 which reached number 1 on Apple Local iTunes Charts. In April 2022, the music video of 'Dali Nguwe' featuring Master KG reached 3 million views in three weeks.In June 2023, her debut studio album got released and charted number 34 on Spotify Top albums, and debuted number 3 in South Africa. She has performed in Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, United States and several other countries.
