Yuvan Shankar Raja is an Indian Composer and Singer-songwriter. He mainly scores music for Tamil films along with few Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. Considered a versatile composer, he is particularly known for his use of Western music elements and often credited with having introduced hip hop to the Tamil film and music industry and started the "era of remixes" in Tamil Nadu which included mixed EDM and jazz. He is frequently referred to as the "BGM King" and the "Young Maestro" of Tamil Film Music. Yuvan has won two Filmfare Awards South, five Mirchi Music Awards South, three Vijay Awards and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
Selvaraghavan is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor who has directed and acted predominantly Tamil films. His directorial debut had with Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002) but his father is credited for business reasons, which stars his brother Dhanush K. Raja, Selvaraghavan went on to make a series of romantic drama films with Kadhal Kondein (2003) and 7G Rainbow Colony (2004) before also venturing into coming-of-age films Pudhupettai (2006) and Mayakkam Enna (2011), both starring Dhanush. He has also ventured into making science fiction and fantasy films, such as depicting a fantasy Chola kingdom in Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) and a parallel universe in Irandam Ulagam (2013). He has been critically acclaimed for his directorial skills.
Jeevan is a former Indian actor in the Tamil film industry. He first appeared in the film University (2002). However, this was followed by greater success Kaakha Kaakha (2003). Following a 3-year sabbatical, he returned as an actor in the main role with Susi Ganesan's Thiruttu Payale (2006), which earned him praise. He signed up for the remake of the 1974 film Naan Avanillai (2007), and post-release gained even more praise for helping it become a success.
Billa is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Vishnuvardhan. It is a remake of the 1980 film of the same name starring Rajnikanth, which itself is a remake of 1978 Hindi film Don, starring Amithabh Bachchan. The film stars Ajith Kumar who plays a double role as an underworld don and his friendly look-alike alongside Nayanthara and Namitha, while Prabhu, Rahman, Adithya Menon, and Santhanam playing supporting roles. It is produced by L. Suresh and Abdurrahman M while featuring a score and soundtrack by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Nirav Shah and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad.
Kannamoochi Yenada? is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film written and directed by V. Priya. The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sandhya, Sathyaraj and Raadhika Sarathkumar and Sripriya, Radha Ravi and Manobala in supporting roles. The film's score and soundtrack is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film, a remake of the 2005 American film Guess Who, which itself is based on the 1967 American film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, was jointly produced and distributed by Raadan Media Works, UTV, and Pyramid Saimira. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja with cinematography by Preetha Jayaraman and editing by Sathish Suriya. It released on 8 November 2007 during Deepavali. The film's title was inspired from a song from Kandukondain Kandukondain.
Paruthiveeran is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Ameer. The film stars Karthi in his feature film debut as the title character, with Priyamani as the female lead and Ponvannan, Saravanan, Ganja Karuppu, Sampath Raj, and Sujatha Sivakumar playing supporting roles. Produced by Ameer, it features a soundtrack and score composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematograhy by Ramji and editing by Raja Mohammad. The film was remade into Bengali Bangladesh as PoraMon 2 (2018).
Vaazhthugal (transl. Congratulations) is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Seeman, in his final directorial work before his entry into politics. The film stars Madhavan and Bhavana, along with Venkat Prabhu, Ilavarasu, Na. Muthuswamy and R. K., who play supporting roles. Produced by T. Siva for Amma Creations and with music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vaazhthugal was released on 14 January 2008 during Pongal, upon release the film opened to negative reviews and performed poorly at the box office.
Aegan is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language masala film directed and co-written by Raju Sundaram and produced by Ayngaran International. It stars Ajith Kumar and Nayanthara, with Suman, Jayaram, Nassar, Navdeep, and Piaa Bajpai in supporting roles. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja with cinematography by Arjun Jena and editing by V. T. Vijayan. It is loosely based on the 2004 Bollywood film, Main Hoon Na.
Thulluvadho Ilamai is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language teen drama film written by Selvaraghavan, with direction credited to his father Kasthuri Raja. The film marks the acting debut of Selvaraghavan's brother Dhanush, who plays the lead role. The film also features newcomers Abhinay, Sherin, Ramesh, Shilpa and Gangeshwari in major roles, and features prominent film personalities Vijayakumar, Ramesh Khanna, and Pyramid Natarajan playing supporting roles.
Siva Manasula Sakthi also known by the initialism SMS, is a 2009 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film written and directed by debutant M. Rajesh. It stars Jiiva and newcomer Anuya Bhagwat, a student of Pune Film Institute, in the lead roles, with Santhanam, Urvashi and Sathyan appearing in supporting and Arya appearing in a cameo role.
Kadhal 2 Kalyanam is an unreleased Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by newcomer Milind Rau that stars debutante Sathya, brother of Tamil actor Arya, and Ramya, whilst, Jayashree, Nagendra Prasad, Kasthuri and Anuja Iyer play pivotal roles. Noted film critic Baradwaj Rangan had written the dialogues, while Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the film's score and soundtrack. The cinematography and editing were handled by P. S. Vinod and Leo John Paul, respectively. Pre-production works began by mid-2008, while the filming continued for over one year, being completed by July 2010. The film was jointly produced by Mirchi Movies and East Coast Entertainment, who are now not in the film-making business. Hence the movie remains unreleased.
Yogi is a 2009 Indian Tamil-language action drama film directed by Subramaniam Siva, starring director-turned-actor Ameer as the titular protagonist alongside Madhumitha, and Swathi, Vincent Asokan, Ponvannan, lyricist Snehan in his acting debut, and Ganja Karuppu. An uncredited remake of the 2005 South African Academy Award-winning film Tsotsi, the film was written and produced by Ameer himself, and features musical score composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Pathinaaru (transl. Sixteen) is a 2011 Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Sabapathy Dekshinamurthy, who previously directed the films V.I.P (1997), Punnagai Poove (2003) and A Aa E Ee (2009). It stars Shiva and Madhu Shalini. The film's background score and soundtrack was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. After being launched in October 2008 under the title 16, the film was shot for over one year, wrapping in early 2010. A year after completion, Kalaipuli S. Thanu bought the distribution rights and released the film on 28 January 2011 under his V. Creations banner. However, it was financially unsuccessful. Despite that, it was remade as Jolly Boy in Kannada language.
Naan Mahaan Alla is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language action film directed by Suseenthiran and produced by Studio Green. It stars Karthi, Kajal Aggarwal, Jayaprakash and Soori. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja with cinematography handled by R. Madhi and editing by Kasi Viswanathan. Set in Chennai, Jeeva is an unemployed carefree young man whose father becomes the target of a gang of young criminals after witnessing a kidnapping.
Thanga Meenkal is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Ram in his second directorial venture after Kattradhu Thamizh. The story was written by Ram and his daughter Shri Sankara Gomathy Ram, with the former, besides, played the lead role as well alongside newcomers Sadhana and Shelly Kishore. The film is jointly produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon and J. Satish Kumar under the banners Photon Kathaas and JSK Film Corporation, respectively.
All in All Azhagu Raja is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film written and directed by M. Rajesh. The film stars Karthi in dual lead roles with Kajal Aggarwal, Prabhu, Santhanam, Saranya Ponvannan, and Radhika Apte in the supporting roles. The music was composed by S. Thaman with cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan and editing by Vivek Harshan. The film was released on 2 November 2013 coinciding with Diwali to negative reviews from critics.
Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer is a 2013 Indian Tamil language romantic drama film directed by Suseenthiran. It features debutant Santhosh Ramesh and Manisha Yadav of Vazhakku Enn 18/9 fame in the lead roles. It is produced by Nallu Studios and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Cinematography is by Soorya.A.R, editing by Antony, stunts by Anal Arasu, lyrics by Vaali and Yugabharathi. The film released with highly positive reviews. The film was remade in Kannada as Naduve Antaravirali (2018).
Massu Engira Masilamani, also known by its former title Masss, is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language action horror comedy film directed by Venkat Prabhu. The film was produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under his Studio Green banner alongside his then-newly formed studio Aadnah Arts, and was distributed by Eros International and Dream factory. The film features an ensemble cast including Suriya, Nayanthara, Pranitha Subhash, Premgi, Parthiban and Samuthirakani. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the film's soundtrack and score, whereas cinematography and editing were handled by R. D. Rajasekhar and Praveen K. L. respectively. In the film Masss, A con artist starts interacting with ghosts when his partner in crime dies in an accident. During one such encounter, he stumbles upon Shakthi, a ghost who wants to seek revenge against his family's killers.
Nenjam Marappathillai is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language horror film written and directed by Selvaraghavan. Jointly produced by Escape Artists Motion Pictures and GLO Studios, the film stars S. J. Suryah, Nandita Swetha and Regina Cassandra. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the film score and soundtrack, with cinematography and editing were handled respectively by Arvind Krishna and Prasanna GK.
Moondru Per Moondru Kadal is the soundtrack album for 2013 Indian Tamil-language romance film of the same name starring Arjun, Cheran, Vimal, Surveen Chawla, Muktha Bhanu and Lasini. The film’s cinematography and editing were handled by Bhojan K. Dinesh and S. N. Fazil respectively. The film features music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Vasanth hired him as the composer, with whom he had previously worked in Poovellam Kettuppar (1999) and his last project Satham Podathey (2007).
