Madeline Mulqueen (born 19 July 1990) [1] is an Irish model and occasional actress.

Background

Mulqueen was born in Limerick in 1990, and raised in Kildimo, Co. Limerick. [2] She went to Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ, she studied at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick. [3]

Career

Mulqueen started out with the Fíona Doyle agency, before being signed by The Martina Costelloe Agency. Mulqueen entered several regional modelling contests, including the South West Model Search, which she won, [4] and was runner-up in the Miss Limerick contest in 2009. [5]

Mulqueen appeared in the music video to the song "Horse Outside" by the Limerick comedy hip-hop duo The Rubberbandits. The video shows a wedding scene, with Mulqueen playing the sought-after bridesmaid at the wedding. [6] This role brought Mulqueen national attention [7] [8] as the video had received more than 11 million hits on YouTube as of August 2014, [9] came second on the Irish Singles Chart in the hunt for the Christmas number one, and was called "the biggest song in Ireland in a generation". [10] As a result of the video, Mulqueen became the most googled woman in Ireland. [11] Following the success of "Horse Outside", Mulqueen appeared on comedy programme Republic of Telly on RTÉ Two, [12] and then appeared in the second celebrity special of TV3's Come Dine with Me , which aired in December 2012. [13] As of 2014, Mulqueen was working on several other television projects, including a pilot for RTÉ. [14]

Mulqueen has been critical of the Irish modelling industry, saying she finds it "disheartening to see a lot of the focus on over-sexualising models". [15]

Personal life

Mulqueen lives in Dublin. She is engaged to Irish actor Jack Reynor. They became engaged in Hong Kong [16] in March 2014, [17] a year after meeting.

In October 2012, Mulqueen was assaulted in the Grafton Street branch of McDonald's. She had come to the defence of a member of staff during a dispute with a customer about payment. The customer punched Mulqueen on the jaw. [18]

The Rubberbandits are an Irish comedy hip-hop duo from Limerick city. They consist of Blindboy Boatclub and Mr Chrome. During performances and interviews, they conceal their identities with masks made from plastic shopping bags. They are often accompanied by DJ Willie O'DJ, a silent masked caricature of local politician Willie O'Dea. The group describe themselves as artists, and have dubbed their movement as "Gas Cuntism".

Republic of Telly is a TV review and magazine programme on Irish public broadcaster, RTÉ Two. Presented by comedian Kevin McGahern, the programme is intended as a satirical examination of television, mocking various Irish and British TV channels, including sketches and special guests making an appearance from the shows. An added feature of the show is its correspondents Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O'Shea. Maguire conducts vox pops and celebrity interviews, whereas O'Shea conducts live 'on the spot' reports. "Horse Outside" is a song by Irish comedy group The Rubberbandits. It was released on 8 December 2010, after its accompanying music video was aired on RTÉ Television programme Republic of Telly. The video gained almost 2.5 million views in ten days on YouTube and, as of July 2020, has over 20 million views. It was targeted to become the Irish Christmas number one single of 2010, ultimately finishing second.
