Constituent Assembly elections were held in Nepal on 10 April 2008, having been postponed from earlier dates of 7 June 2007 and 22 November 2007. The Constituent Assembly was planned to draft a new constitution and therefore decide, amongst other things, on the issue of federalism. The number of eligible voters was around 17.5 million. The Constituent Assembly was originally set to have a term of two years.

The Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum, Nepal (MJFN), or the Madhesi People's Rights Forum, Nepal, was a political party in Nepal. It was initially not a political party as such but a political advocacy movement demanding ethnic self-determination rights with the formation of a Madhes autonomous region for Teraibasi people, an election system based on proportional representation, and the setting-up of a federal republic in Nepal. The MJFN includes former leaders of other political parties like the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML).
Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekta Party Nepal is a political party in Nepal. The party was registered with the Election Commission of Nepal ahead of the 2008 Constituent Assembly election. Before registering as a party, the organization's name was Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekta Samaj, which was formed in the beginning of 2007 after many Madhesi armed outfits started repeatedly attack and kill Pahades in the Terai region. The party was founded with the ideology of democratic system.
Jay Prakash Gupta, also referred to as Jay Prakash Anand or popularly JP Gupta, is a Nepalese politician and former member of the Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum, Nepal(Republican) party. He born in Saptari District, Nepal. Before joining forum, he was a member of Nepali Congress. His political career was going very well from this party but he left the party during Madhesh movement. He is presently running Terai Madhesh Rastriya Abhiyan.
The Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum, Nepal (Loktantrik) was a political party in Nepal. It existed as one of the important political force during the constituent assembly. Later the party merged with several other parties to become the largest Madhesh/Tharuhath based party, Nepal Loktantrik Forum.
