The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is the administrative department of the Ohio state government that operates twenty-seven state prisons for adults and three facilities for juveniles. The sixth-largest prison system in America, at the end of 2018 it had 49,255 people in custody and a budget of $1.8 billion. It has its headquarters in Columbus.
The Lorain Correctional Institution is a state prison in Grafton, Ohio, United States. It is run by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction as a reception & distribution center for the northern half of the state. It stands adjacent and to the north of Ohio's Grafton Correctional Institution.
The Pickaway Correctional Institution is a state prison located in Scioto Township, Pickaway County, just outside Orient, Ohio, United States which mostly houses minimum and medium security inmates. PCI was opened as a prison in 1984 after the buildings which formerly housed a facility for Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities had been closed.

Hocking Correctional Facility was an Ohio state prison located in Ward Township, Hocking County, just north of Nelsonville, Ohio. The facility was originally built in 1952 as a sanatorium and later a children's center. It was converted into prison in 1982. The prison employs a staff of 110. This prison is used primarily to incarcerate the state's aging prison population. The prison's operating budget for 2007 is $13,867,468; and the daily cost per inmate is $80.94. The prison, as of April 2007, currently houses 481 inmates. Of these: 111 are African American, 363 are Caucasian, and 7 are Latino. In 2018, the prison housed 430 inmates.
The Indiana Women's Prison was established in 1873 as the first adult female correctional facility in the country. The original location of the prison was one mile (1.6 km) east of downtown Indianapolis. It has since moved to 2596 Girls School Road, former location of the Indianapolis Juvenile Correctional Facility. As of 2005 it had an average daily population of 420 inmates, most of whom are members of special-needs populations, such as geriatric, mentally ill, pregnant, and juveniles sentenced as adults. By the end of 2015 the population increased to 599 inmates. Security levels range from medium to maximum. The prison holds Indiana's only death row for women; however, it currently has no death row inmates. The one woman under an Indiana death sentence, Debra Denise Brown, is being held in Ohio.
Southeastern Correctional Institution is an Ohio prison located at 5900 Boys Industrial School Road in Hocking Township, Fairfield County, six miles south of Lancaster, Ohio. The facility originally opened as a reform school for male juvenile offenders. It currently houses 2,034 inmates with either minimum or medium security levels.
Ross Correctional Institution (RCI) is an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction state prison for men located in Chillicothe, Ohio, adjacent to the medium-security Chillicothe Correctional Institution and the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. First opened in 1987, Ross houses 2,037 inmates. The institution covers 1,707 acres and employed over 350 security staff. As of January 6, 2016, there are 2085 inmates at the institution. Around 56% of the inmate population are classified as African American, 43% classified as Caucasian, and 0.01% classified as other. It is estimated that the average amount of up keeping each inmate is $51.77.
