Madison Violet is a Juno-nominated Canadian music duo composed of singer-songwriters Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac. The group has been notable for various folk and pop award nominations and wins.
Lisa MacIsaac is a fiddler, vocalist and stepdancer originally from Creignish, Cape Breton Island. [1] She began learning to dance at the age of seven and took up the fiddle a year later. MacIsaac plays a variety of musical styles and many instruments, including piano and mandolin. [1] She is the sister of fiddler Ashley MacIsaac. [2]
Brenley MacEachern, born in Montreal and raised in Kincardine, Ontario, [3] also has Cape Breton roots. Her father is from Craigmore, Nova Scotia. [4] Christy's Look Off in Craigmore is named after her grandmother, Christy MacEachern. [5]
Despite both having family ties in Creignish, MacIsaac and MacEachern first met at an artists' hangout in Toronto in the late 1990s, when MacEachern was part of the band Zoebliss. MacIsaac briefly joined that band, and the pair continued collaborating as a duo after Zoebliss broke up in 1999. The duo were originally known as Madviolet, but later changed their name to Madison Violet. [2]
They released three albums independently in Canada, and then signed a record deal with True North Records [6] for their fourth album, No Fool for Trying, and its follow-up The Good in Goodbye. The duo have toured extensively across Canada, Europe, the UK and Australia, and in 2013 released the live concert Come As You Are: Live which was filmed at the Kulturkirche in Cologne, Germany
In 2010, the band received a Juno nomination for Roots/Traditional album of the Year for No Fool For Trying. They were also awarded Song of the Year in the 2010 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for The Ransom, and in January 2011, Madison Violet was nominated for the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards in the Singer-Songwriter category for No Fool for Trying, and won in the category for Folk/Singer-Songwriter Song for The Ransom and Small of My Heart. After completing their contract with True North Records the band spent most of 2014 recording the followup to The Good in Goodbye. Experimenting with more pop, electronic and synth-based sounds the band signed a worldwide deal with Ultra Records to release the single These Ships (Matt James Remix) on 11 September. The new album, titled The Year of the Horse is slated for release in 2016.
In the summer of 2018 Madison Violet hired Mark Watson of Toronto-based Watson Entertainment as their music manager to further their musical career. [8] Madison Violet also ended their relationship with booking agency Paquin Entertainment to work with Ryan Heerschap.
Ashley Dwayne MacIsaac is a Canadian fiddler, singer and songwriter from Cape Breton Island. He has received three Juno Awards, winning for Best New Solo Artist and Best Roots & Traditional Album – Solo at the Juno Awards of 1996, and for Best Instrumental Artist at the Juno Awards of 1997. His 1995 album Hi™ How Are You Today? was a double-platinum selling Canadian record. MacIsaac published an autobiography, Fiddling with Disaster in 2003.
Damhnait Doyle is a Canadian musician, singer and composer. A phonetic spelling of her first name also serves as the title of her 2003 album. She was a member of Atlantic Canadian band Shaye from 2003–2009 with Kim Stockwood and Tara MacLean (2003–2007). Along with Blake Manning, Stuart Cameron and Peter Fusco, she formed a new band called The Heartbroken which was active since 2009.
Kim Stockwood is a Canadian pop musician, singer and composer originally from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. She has recorded as a solo artist and also as a member of Atlantic Canadian music group Shaye with Damhnait Doyle and Tara MacLean.
Lisa Dal Bello, also known as Dalbello, is a Canadian musician. She released three albums in the pop and pop/rock genre in her late teens, from 1977 through 1981 under her full name. In 1984, she re-emerged as Dalbello, with an edgier brand of alternative rock.
Mary Jane Lamond is a Canadian Celtic folk musician who performs traditional Canadian Gaelic folk songs from Cape Breton Island. Her music combines traditional and contemporary material. Lamond is known as the vocalist on Ashley MacIsaac's 1995 hit single "Sleepy Maggie", and for her solo Top 40 hit "Horo Ghoid thu Nighean", the first single from her 1997 album Suas e!. Her 2012 collaboration with fiddler Wendy MacIsaac, Seinn, was named one of the top 10 folk and americana albums of 2012 by National Public Radio in the United States.
William Joel MacDonald Plaskett is a Canadian rock musician and songwriter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a member of Halifax alternative rock band Thrush Hermit in the 1990s. Plaskett performs in a number of genres, from blues and folk to hard rock, country, and pop.
George Canyon is a Canadian country music singer. He was the runner up on the second season of Nashville Star in 2004. He grew up in Fox Brook, Pictou County, Nova Scotia before he moved west to Calgary, Alberta. He also holds an appointment in the Canadian Forces as the Colonel Commandant of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.

David Myles is a Canadian songwriter and musician born in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Myles lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick, as of September 2020, moving from Halifax, Nova Scotia. His music has often been labeled folk jazz, although he prefers simply to call it "roots" music. An independent artist who self-releases his albums, Myles has been able to gain an increasingly large audience, in part because of his active touring schedule and in part because of his cross-genre musical collaborations, which include a single made with the rapper Classified that became the biggest-selling rap single in the history of Canadian music.

Lisa LeBlanc, is a Canadian singer-songwriter and banjoist, known for her enthusiastic "trash folk" performances. She has been noted for her "distinct" blend of folk, rock, and disco with both English and French language lyrics combined with chiac and her Acadian accent. Her accolades include two Félix Awards and an East Coast Music Award. She has also been nominated for three Juno Awards, the SOCAN Songwriting Prize, and shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize twice.
Mo Kenney is a Canadian singer/songwriter based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Catching the ear of noted Canadian rocker Joel Plaskett while still in school, Kenney released their first album in 2012, which Plaskett produced. Kenney is known for their lyrical prowess and engaging stage presence. Called "Nova Scotia's rising star" by The Scene magazine, they have toured with Plaskett as well as with Ron Sexsmith. In 2013, their song "Sucker" won the prestigious SOCAN Songwriting Prize.
