Maestro is a 2003 American documentary directed by Josell Ramos. [1]
Maestro tells the story of the roots of disco and house music in the gay clubs of New York City in the 1970s.
The New York Times wrote in its review, "Maestro is a passionate but messy, often inarticulate home movie that looks back with reverence on the multicultural, mostly gay underground dance movement in New York that coalesced in the early 1970's." [1]
The BBC said, "Whatever its faults though, "Maestro" is an important contribution to the history of dance music." [2]
Time Out magazine wrote, "An attempt at a linear history of dance music from the '60s to today, or more specifically, the story of Larry Levan (perhaps the most influential DJ ever?)." [3]
