The album was released in response to the record company's accusations that Mellencamp's previous album, Human Wheels, didn't "fit the format." Mellencamp was irritated with this remark, feeling that none of his albums ever fit the format. As a result, he wrote several purposely radio-friendly songs and recorded them within the span of 14 days at his Belmont Mall recording studio in Belmont, Indiana, intending to show the lack of effort required to produce the type of album they were asking for.

The other band members are Nathan Dugger and Rich Brinsfield (bass). Now composing and writing their own songs, Cimorelli is made up of five sisters: Christina, Katherine, Lisa, Amy, and Lauren; their older brother, Mike Jr., was a member of the group from 2007 to 2008, while youngest sister Dani was a member from 2010 to 2020. The group's music is mostly made up of a cappella singing with occasional instruments.

Monica Lisa Stevenson is an American gospel musician. Her first album, Finally...in God's Time, was released by Monicazmuzik in 2009. The subsequent album, Live in Atlanta, was released in 2013 by Central South Records. This was a Billboard magazine breakthrough release on the Gospel Albums chart and Heatseekers Albums chart. She was nominated at the 2009 Stellar Awards in two categories.
