Magma Pictures Limited [1] is a film production company based in London, founded in 2004 by directors James Walker and Ed Boase who have been working together in the film industry. Magma Pictures' educational sister company is Young Film Academy. Magma Pictures specialises in feature films and corporate films.

History

Magma Pictures' films have been shown in over fifty festivals worldwide and broadcast on BBC Four, HTV, Canal+ and Rai 1, among others. Their awards include Best UK Short (Raindance Film Festival), Cocotte-Minute Grand Prix ( Brest European Short Film Festival ) [2] and Best Director (Capalbio International Film Festival). [2] James Walker (director) graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge in 2001. He was nominated for the London Writer's Award in 2002 and won the King's Cross New Writing Award, 2004. He has since been commissioned by the National Theatre and is writing for television. Ed Boase (director) graduated from the London College of Printing in 2001. His latest short film Home Video was shortlisted for Best Newcomer at the Rushes Short Film Festival [3] and won the Silver Melies award at the Leeds International Film Festival 2006. [4] Magma Pictures' first feature film is Blooded , which received UK theatrical and DVD release in April 2011.

Blooded

In June 2008, directors Ed Boase and James Walker completed principal photography on their first feature film, Blooded , set on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. The film, made with collaborator Nick Ashdon (Ptarmigan ACP), had a UK release on 1 April 2011 by Revolver Entertainment.

The Young Film Academy (YFA), based in London, is an English educational institution and the educational sister company to Magma Pictures. The academy is the UK's leading provider of practical filmmaking programs to young people aged 8–18. YFA works with over 80 of the UK's leading independent and state schools with their flagship programs, the "One Day Film School". YFA is also the workshop provider for UK arts festivals, including the Guardian Hay Festival and The Edinburgh International Film Festival, The Minghella Film Festival, The High Tide Festival, and the Barbican's London Children's Film Festival.

James Walker is a British writer and filmmaker. He lives in London and studied at Radley College and Trinity College, Cambridge University where he read English and received a 1st Class Honors Degree. He is a director of Magma Pictures and the Young Film Academy. His first feature film Blooded, had a UK cinema release on 1 April 2011 and was released on the UK DVD market. Blooded caused a great deal of controversy at the time of the film's release, promotional viral videos were removed from video sharing websites following action by animal rights protesters.

Blooded is a 2011 British independent horror/thriller film written by James Walker, produced by Magma Pictures and Ptarmigan ACP and directed by Edward Boase, his first feature. The film premiered at the Bradford International Film Festival on 18 March 2011.

Ed Edwards is an advertising executive and filmmaker.

Exhibit A is a 2007 British independent psychological thriller film directed by Dom Rotheroe and produced by Darren Bender for Warp Films. The film is an example of the found footage genre and stars Bradley Cole, Brittany Ashworth, Angela Forrest and Oliver Lee. It was filmed on location in Yorkshire and Suffolk and released on 1 October 2007 at the Raindance Film Festival. It was the last film that prolific stuntman Roy Alon worked on.

Lee Chambers is a British-Canadian writer, film director, and producer. In 2012 he won the Best Screenwriter award from Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards for his Australian short film, Hugh Jackman Saves the World.
