Surekha Shankar Yadav née Surekha Ramchandra Bhosale is the senior-most female locopilot of the Indian Railways in India,. She became India's first female train driver in 1988. She drove the first "Ladies Special" local train for Central Railways when it was first introduced in the four metro cities by Mamata Banerjee the then Railway Minister, in April 2000. She was suburban local train motor woman from 2000 to 2010. She then got promoted to Sr. Loco Pilot Mail in 2010. A momentous event in her career was on 8 March 2011, on the International Women's Day, when she became Asia's first woman train driver to drive the Deccan Queen from Pune to CST, through difficult but scenic topography, where she was greeted by the then Mayor of Mumbai Shraddha Jadhav, at CST, the headquarter of Central Railway zone. She repeated the feat ten years later driving an all-woman crew from Mumbai to Lucknow. A commonly heard comment in 2011 was that "Women don't drive railway engines'".
Kolkata Metro Line 3 or the Purple Line is a line of the Kolkata Metro. The 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) stretch from Joka to Taratala of the 15.08 kilometres (9.37 mi) line was inaugurated on 30 December 2022. The route spans 15.08 kilometres (9.37 mi) from Joka in the south, to Esplanade in the north with an extension of 3.39 kilometres (2.11 mi) to Diamond Park from Joka. It will connect Kolkata Metro Line 1 at Park Street in central Kolkata and run in parallel up to Esplanade in central Kolkata where it will connect Kolkata Metro Line 2 also. Line 3 is being built by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
Ullas is a Bengali social drama film directed by Ishwar Chakraborty and produced by Sankar Sarkar. This film was based on three short stories of Mahasweta Devi namely Daur, Mahadu Ekti Rupkatha and Anno Aranya. This movie was released on 29 June 2012 in the banner of R.N.R. Enterprise. Writer Mahasweta Devi acted herself in the film in the role of Basuli goddess.

Vande Bharat Express is a medium-distance superfast express service operated by Indian Railways. Operation Ganga was an evacuation mission carried out by the Indian government to rescue its citizens stranded in neighboring countries of Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The citizens were transported from Romania, Hungary, Poland, Moldova, and Slovakia to India with assistance from these countries. India maintained a neutral stance during the invasion.
Mahananda is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language biographical film directed by Arindam Sil. The film is produced by Firdausul Hasan and Probal Halder under the banner of Friends Communication. The film is based on the life and works of the eminent writer and socio-political activist Mahasweta Devi. The film stars Gargi Roychowdhury in the title role.

The Vande Bharat trainset, formerly known as Train 18, is an Indian Electric multiple unit chair car trainset designed and developed by Indian Railways at its Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. The train achieved a maximum speed of 183 km/h (114 mph) during its trial runs but the operational speed of the train is restricted to 160 km/h (99 mph) due to tracks' inability to support such speeds.
