Field hockey in India refers to two teams, the India men's national field hockey team and the India women's national field hockey team. It is one of the most popular sport in India, as it is one of the major team sports in which India has been historically successful.
Ravinder Pal Singh was an Indian field hockey player and former banker. He was well known as a prominent centre-half during his playing days from 1979 to 1984. He was part of the Indian hockey team that won the gold medal in 1980 Summer Olympics at Moscow where India defeated Spain 4-3 in the final.
The Indian women's national field hockey team represents India in international field hockey, and is governed by Hockey India. Nabhvarna are currently ranked 9th in the FIH World Rankings, and are ranked as the second best team in Asia. They have won the gold medals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and 1982 Asian Games. They have also won the Women's Asia Cup twice, i.e. in 2004 and 2017. They also won the Asian Champions Trophy 2016 and 2023.
Sardara Singh, sometimes referred as Sardar Singh, is an Indian field hockey coach and former field hockey player. He also served as the captain of the Indian national team. He usually plays the center half position. Sardara became the youngest player to captain the Indian team when he led the side at the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015. On 13 July 2016, the responsibilities of the captain were handed over from him to P. R. Sreejesh, the goalkeeper of Indian Team. On 12 September 2018, Sardara announced his retirement from international hockey. He played 314 matches during 12 years in his career.
Parattu Raveendran Sreejesh is a former Indian field hockey player who played as a goalkeeper and former captain of the Indian national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest goal keepers in the history of hockey. Sreejesh played a vital role in the Indian national team's bronze medal wins at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics.
Rani Rampal, known mononymously as Rani, is an Indian field hockey player and coach. At the age of 15, she was the youngest player in the national team which participated in the 2010 World Cup. She has completed her schooling but was not able to get the graduate degree due to practice sessions and matches which were lined up. She plays forward on her team. She has played 212 international matches and scored 134 goals. She is currently the Captain for Indian Women's Hockey Team. She is also well known as a striker who often doubles up as mid-fielder. She has a great fascination with CWG. In 2020, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri.
Gonzalo Peillat is a field hockey player who plays as a defender for Men's Feldhockey Bundesliga club Mannheimer HC. Born in Argentina, he represents Germany at international level. He previously played for his country of birth national team. In 2015, Peillat was awarded the FIH 2014 Rising Star of the Year.
Ritu Rani is an Indian former field hockey player, who represented the India women's national field hockey team. She also served as the captain of the national team. She plays as a halfback. Rani has led the team to medal winning performances most notably the bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. Also under her captaincy the team qualified for the Olympics after 36 years after finishing fifth in the 2014–15 Women's FIH Hockey World League Semifinals.
Rajani Etimarpu is an Indian field hockey player who represents the India women's national field hockey team. She hails from Andhra Pradesh and plays as a goalkeeper. She represents Railway Sports Promotion Board in the domestic tournaments.
Lalremsiami Hmarzote is an Indian professional field hockey player who plays as a forward and occasionally as a halfback for the Indian national team. At the club level, she plays for Sports Authority of India. Hmarzote was a part of the 18-member squad that represented India at the 2018 World Cup. At the Asian Games that followed, she became the first sportsperson from Mizoram to win an Asian medal after she won silver.
Rishabh Yadav is a compound archer from India. At the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships at Wrocław, Poland, he won the bronze medal in the men's compound archery event. On 17 November 2021, he won the bronze medal in the men's compound archery team event along with Abhishek Verma and Aman Saini and a silver medal in the mixed team event with Jyothi Surekha Vennam at the 22nd Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The 2024 Hockey5s World Cup was the first edition of the FIH Women's Hockey5s World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for women's national hockey5s teams organized by the FIH. It was held from 24 to 27 January 2024, in Muscat, Oman.

She plays for Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the domestic hockey tournaments. She won the bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games. She plays as a forward and specialises in drag-flicks.
Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke is an Indian field hockey player and member of Indian women hockey team. She plays for Hockey Maharashtra in the domestic hockey tournaments. She plays as a defender.
Sanjay Rana, known mononymously as Sanjay, is an Indian hockey player who plays as a defender. He is also one of the second drag flickers for the Indian team which won gold medal in 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. He is selected to represent India in the 2024 Summer Olympics at Paris.
Yashdeep Siwach is an Indian field hockey player from Haryana. He plays as a defender for the Indian national team and represents Railway Sports Promotion Board in domestic tournaments.
Mohammed Raheel Mouseen is an Indian field hockey player from Karnataka. He plays as a mid-fielder for the Indian national team and represents Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) team in the domestic tournaments. He plays both the Hockey 5s and the Senior outdoor formats. He was part of the Indian Hockey5s team which finished fifth at the World Cup at Muscat, Oman from 24 January 2024.
Mumtaz Khan is an Indian women's field hockey player from Uttar Pradesh. She plays as a forward. She made her senior India debut at the FIH pro-league at Bhubaneswar. She plays for Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the domestic tournaments.

Yendala Soundarya was an Indian women's field hockey player from Telangana who earned over 100 caps. She plays as a centre-forward. She is part of the support staff of the coaching team of the Indian women's hockey team and the head coach of the Hockey5s team that won the silver medal at Hockey5s World Cup in 2024. She is also the first women's hockey player from Telangana to play for India.
