Lieutenant General Mahmoud Freihat (born in 1960, Jerash) [1] is a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces. Freihat was appointed to this position on 2 October 2016 and served until 24 July 2019. [2]
He earned his military commission from Jordan's Royal Military Academy in 1980 and later earned graduate degrees from the United Kingdom's Royal College of Defence Studies and King's College London. [3]
He is the cousin of the historian Khaled Freihat
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) is the presiding officer of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). The chairman is the highest-ranking and most senior military officer in the United States Armed Forces and the principal military advisor to the president, the National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council, and the secretary of defense. While the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff outranks all other commissioned officers, the chairman is prohibited by law from having operational command authority over the armed forces; however, the chairman does assist the president and the secretary of defense in exercising their command functions.

Before that, he served as Commanding General, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, from December 8, 2008, to April 11, 2011, as Acting Commander, U.S. Central Command, from March 24, 2008, to October 30, 2008, as Deputy Commander, U.S. Central Command, from August 2007 to March 23, 2008, and as Commanding General, Multi-National Security Transition Command – Iraq (MNSTC-I), from August 2005 to August 2007. Dempsey assumed his assignment as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on October 1, 2011 and stepped down from the Chairmanship on September 25, 2015. He has served as a professor at Duke University and as chairman of USA Basketball.

King Abdullah II Special Forces Group, commonly known as the JORSOF are strategic-level special forces of the Royal Jordanian Army under the Jordanian Armed Forces. Founded on April 15, 1963 on the orders of the late King Hussein, its primary roles include reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, search and evacuation, intelligence gathering combat, and the protection of key sites. The Special Forces Group are also charged with carrying out precision strikes against critical enemy targets. The unit is equipped and trained to be able to operate behind enemy lines for long periods without any logistical support, and is considered some of the best in the Middle East.
General John Nicholas Reynolds Houghton, Baron Houghton of Richmond, is a retired senior British Army officer and former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the British Armed Forces. He was appointed CDS in July 2013, following the retirement of General Sir David Richards. He served as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, the Green Howards in Northern Ireland during The Troubles and later became Commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade in Northern Ireland. He deployed as Senior British Military Representative and Deputy Commanding General, Multi-National Force – Iraq during the Iraq War. Later, he became Chief of Joint Operations at Permanent Joint Headquarters and served as Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff until assuming the position of CDS. Houghton retired from the British Army in July 2016, and was succeeded as CDS by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach.
The Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF), also referred to as the Arab Army, are the military forces of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. They consist of the ground forces, air force, and navy and is under the direct control of the King of Jordan who is the Supreme Commander of the Jordanian Armed Forces. The current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is Major General Yousef Huneiti, who is also the King's military adviser.

He went on to be Chief of Defence Intelligence in 2006, Chief of Joint Operations in 2009 and the first Commander of Joint Forces Command in December 2011 before being appointed Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in May 2013. Peach succeeded General Sir Nick Houghton as Chief of the Defence Staff on 14 July 2016. He succeeded General Petr Pavel as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 29 June 2018, serving as such until his retirement from NATO in June 2021.
Joseph Francis Dunford Jr.KBE AO MSC OMRI is a retired United States Marine Corps four-star general, who served as the 19th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 1, 2015 until September 30, 2019. He was the 36th commandant of the Marine Corps. Dunford is the first Marine Corps officer to serve in four different four-star positions; the others include commander of the International Security Assistance Force and United States Forces – Afghanistan from February 2013 until August 2014, and as the 32nd Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps from October 23, 2010, to December 15, 2012. He has commanded several units, including the 5th Marine Regiment during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
General Sir Richard Lawson Barrons, is a retired British Army officer. He was Commander Joint Forces Command from April 2013 until his retirement in April 2016.
Paul Joseph Selva is a retired United States Air Force general who served as the tenth vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In this capacity, he was the nation's second-highest-ranking military officer, and the highest-ranking officer in the Air Force. He assumed his last assignment on July 31, 2015, and retired on August 1, 2019. Selva is a command pilot with more than 3,100 hours in the C-5, C-17A, C-141B, C-37, KC-10, KC-135A and T-37.

Mahmoud Ibrahim Mahmoud Hegazy is an Egyptian general who was the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces from 2014 to 2017. Hegazy graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy in 1977, and served as the Chief of the Egyptian Military intelligence before his appointment as Chief of Staff by the president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. He is related to Sisi through the marriage of their respective children. Mahmoud Hegazy was replaced in 2017 by Mohammed Farid Hegazy in a shakeup of high level security personnel. No reason was given for the changes, but since 2013, Egypt has been fighting an ongoing Islamist insurgency that has killed of hundreds of policemen and soldiers. A week before the dismissal, sixteen policemen were killed during a police operation in the western desert of Giza province, and two high level security personnel for Giza were also dismissed. Hegazy was given a position of security advisor to the president. He is a member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
Mashal Mohammad Al-Zaben was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces between 23 February 2010 and 2 October 2016. On 22 May 2012 Al-Zaben was promoted to General, and received the Istiqlal Medal of the First Order.
General Zubair Mahmood HayatNI(m) is a retired four-star rank army general of the Pakistan Army who served as the 16th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee from 28 November 2016 until his retirement on 27 November 2019.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa is a Pakistani military officer and the 10th and current Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan Army since 29 November 2016. Bajwa is expected to serve in the position until November 2022.
Major General Yousef Huneiti is the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces. Huneiti was appointed to this position on 24 July 2019. Huneiti is the first Jordanian Air Force commander to be appointed Army Chief.
Gen Nadeem Raza NI(M), HI(M) is a four-star general of the Pakistan Army who got commissioned in 10 Sind Regiment in September 1985. He is currently serving as the 17th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee since November 2019. Raza was previously the Corps Commander of the X Corps (Pakistan) and CGS and General Officer Commanding 9th infantry division ,Wana and Commandant of the Pakistan Military Academy. His profile was so strong that he curbed all the competition for the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. He would’ve been the COAS but after the extension of Gen Bajwa he was made CJCSC. He has been awarded foreign awards of Legion of Merit of Turkey and the Order of Military Merit of the First Grade on behalf of Abdullah II of Jordan
