Maicon Thiago Pereira de Souza (born 14 September 1985), simply known as Maicon, is a former Brazilian professional footballer who played as a central midfielder.
On 11 September 2009, Maicon signed for Figueirense, on loan from MSV Duisburg. He is a former player of Botafogo and Fluminense. After a good season with Figueirense, in December 2011, he signed with São Paulo.
Maicon came to São Paulo in December 2011, after shining for Figueirense. In that time, he said that lived "the best phase of career" and had "motivation" for going on at new club. He also said to be an athlete "that organizes the team, with good pass and who has good shoot". [3]
Despite his good performances in his first season for Tricolor side, in whose season he scored twice in a derby against Corinthians, in a victory by 3–1, a game valid by Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Maicon never was popular among fans, who never trusted about his footballer qualities. [4]
In a hard 2013 season, when the team fought against relegation, Muricy Ramalho's coming changed Maicon's phase. Besides of taking off the club from relegation, Ramalho was fundamental for Maicon shines and, along with Paulo Henrique Ganso, another player who lived a bad shape, has become an important footballer for São Paulo's midfield. Ramalho also surprised about criticisms on Maicon. According to the coach, Maicon is a player "who knows how to play the game". [5]

The 2013 season marked São Paulo's 84th year since the club's existence. Playing in the Campeonato Paulista, the club reached the semi-finals, before being eliminated in a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 (3-4) against Corinthians. São Paulo participated in the continental tournament, Copa Libertadores, returning to the most important South American competition following a two-year absence, in a spot by the title of Copa Sudamericana won in the previous year and by the qualifying group of national league with a 4th position reached in the end of competition. Due to the continental title of Copa Sudamericana, the team was enabled to dispute of Recopa Sudamericana and Suruga Bank Championship. In the first opportunity of title by the Recopa Sudamericana the Tricolor was defeated by rival with a two-legs lost. Before long the club went to Japan to compete the Suruga Bank Championship and over again was defeated by opponent in a single match result: 2–3. In participation of Copa Libertadores the team advanced the first and second stages but was eliminated on the round of 16 by the club which would be champion that year, Atlético Mineiro, with two negative results. In the second half of the year, São Paulo had hard times with an historical winless sequence of 14 matches being only closed in a friendly match against Benfica just after 2 months and hand an official victory against Fluminense 2 weeks later by the Campeonato Brasileiro. Due to the negative campaign Tricolor remained on the relegated group for 11 rounds achieving the 9th position on the end of season by recovery at the second half of championship after the return of notable coach Muricy Ramalho who trained São Paulo in two previous opportunities reaching 4 titles including an historical sequence of 3 titles in national league. After Muricy Ramalho's arrival the team improved the average of points earned, reaching the fourth position in second half of league. In the end of season São Paulo play the Copa Sudamericana by defend of the title won in the previous edition, however the team was defeated in semi-finals by another paulista club Ponte Preta with.
The 2014 season was São Paulo's 85th year since the club's existence. The team played the Campeonato Paulista between January and March being defeated in the quarterfinal single match against Penapolense, after a 0-0 draw in the home stadium Morumbi, São Paulo's fall in the penalty shootout by 4-5. In the Copa do Brasil the club reach the third round when it was beaten by Bragantino with an aggregated score of 3-4. The second half of the year was most promising to the Muricy Ramalho's team, in Copa Sudamericana Tricolor was only defeated in the semifinals in face of Colombian club Atlético Nacional over again on penalty shootout this time by 1-4. In the national league Série A, the Dearest take a place in the Copa Libertadores ending the table on second place with 70 points, 10 behind the absolute champion Cruzeiro. The highlight of the year was the return of Kaká, the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2007. Kaká was loaned by American club Orlando City until the end of the season and played 24 matches scoring 3 goals. In the last match of midfielder at November 30, in a 1-1 draw against Figueirense in a game by 37th round of the league, Kaká was acclaimed for more than 30,000 São Paulo fans. Other highlight was noted by the 41 years old capitain Rogerio Ceni that announced the retirement at the end of season. The goalkeeper surpass the mark of 590 victories in official matches reached by Ryan Giggs, the feat was done in October 27 after a 3-0 victory over Goiás. Rogério also arrived the number of 123 goals, almost twice the mark of the second goalkeeper goalscorer Chilavert with 62 goals. Only two matches before the end of season Rogério postponed his retirement to 2015 season.
