Maine School Administrative District 45 is a public school district in the U.S. state of Maine. It encompasses the rural Aroostook County towns of Washburn, Wade, and Perham. Two schools operate in the district, David J Lyon Washburn District Elementary School, and Washburn District High School.

SR 228 is signed as an east-west highway but occupies an alignment resembling an inverted letter V. It provides local access to Perham and Woodland which are bypassed by SR 164 between Washburn and Caribou. It is the only highway in Maine to have a designated truck route.

The area was part of Orono's early settlement, and of a period of rapid growth in the first half of the 19th century. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Ethel "Billie" Wilson Gammon was an American educator and living history museum founder and director. In 1974 she founded the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center on the former estate of Israel Washburn in Livermore, Maine, and served as its volunteer executive director until 1991. Her educational and outreach programs brought 40,000 visitors to the site annually by the end of the twentieth century. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 1997.
