Major Rajasthani was an Indian singer-songwriter associated with Punjabi music. He was specially known for his sad songs. [1]

Early life and family

Major Rajasthani was born as Major Singh on 14 January, 1961 in village 5KK Buttran, Ganganagar district, Rajasthan. His father's name was Jeet Singh and mother Dhan Kaur. He was the youngest sibling among five brothers and one sister. He married Sehajpreet Kaur. They settled in Rampura in Punjab after marriage. He had two children named Navi and Jyoti. [2]

Major Rajasthani performed his last stage show on December 10, 1999 in Barnala with Mumtaaj. He died on December 14, 1999 after heart attack. [2] [8]

Harcharan Garewal was an Indian singer of Punjabi-language folk songs and duets. He is known for his songs like Tota Pee Gia Bullan Di Laali, and duets with Surinder Kaur like Lakk Hille Majajan Jaandi Da, Main Vi Jatt Ludhiane Da, Aa Gia Wanjara Ni Charha Lai Bhabi Churhian and with Seema like Mittran De Tubewell 'te. Satwant Kaur is an Indian film and television actress who works in Punjabi and Hindi films. She started her career through Punjabi music videos, television soap operas and telefilms in the earlier days and ended up appearing in the films. She is known for her portrayals in movies like Ik Jind Ik Jaan (2006), Singh Is Kinng (2008), Majaajan (2008), Ardaas (2016), Dev D (2009), Udta Punjab (2016), TV Serial Kach Diyan Wanga and Gurdas Maan's video song Pind Dian Galian etc., along with many others.

Balbir Madhopuri is a Punjabi language writer, poet and translator. He is best known for his autobiography, Chhangiya Rukh. His writings are primarily focused on the issues related to the oppressed and depressed classes, especially Dalits. In 2021, He has received The Dhahan Prize for Punjabi Literature for his novel Mitti Bol Payi.
