A number of students have also uploaded videos that they have made as part of K-12 and college courses. As of July 2008, the website contained over 26,000 videos. In October 2010, TeacherTube had over a million members and over 400,000 educational videos. It has found favor with educators from institutions where YouTube content is blocked by content filtering systems.

Citizen Schools is an American nonprofit organization that partners with middle schools across the United States to expand the learning day for children in low-income communities. Its stated mission is "educating children and strengthening communities". The center pieces of the Citizen Schools model are its apprenticeship programs run by volunteers that culminate in public demonstrations called WOW!s, and partnering with some middle schools to expand learning time for students. Citizen Schools offers the AmeriCorps National Teaching Fellowship providing a 2-year paid service opportunity for citizens interested in using their personal talents to enhance life opportunities for middle school students. In honor of its 20 anniversary in 2015, Citizen Schools honored 20 alumni of the Fellowship who continue to make a profound impact in the community today.

Aquademics was a Michigan nonprofit organization established in 1990 to increase the number and presence of African American children in competitive water sports. In addition to sponsoring a competitive swimming team, Aquademics operated an academic support program. Based in Ann Arbor, Aquademics programs were open to all youth of color children, ages seven to sixteen, living in Washtenaw County. In operation throughout the 1990s, Aquademics formally disbanded at the turn of the 21st century.

The film premiered as a red carpet feature at the Stars Denver Film Festival to an audience of 2800 people, and then again in New York on Sunday November 23, one day before USA Swimming Foundation's Golden Goggles awards which were also in New York. The New York premiere was co-presented with USA Swimming. The film was directed and produced by Christo Brock and Grant Barbeito, a filmmaking duo from Los Angeles.
