Catalan is a Western Romance language. It is the official language of Andorra, and an official language of three autonomous communities in eastern Spain: Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community, where it is called Valencian. It has semi-official status in the Italian comune of Alghero, and it is spoken in the Pyrénées-Orientales department of France and in two further areas in eastern Spain: the eastern strip of Aragon and the Carche area in the Region of Murcia. The Catalan-speaking territories are often called the Països Catalans or "Catalan Countries".
Valencian or the Valencian language is the official, historical and traditional name used in the Valencian Community of Spain to refer to the Romance language also known as Catalan, either as a whole or in its Valencia-specific linguistic forms. The Valencian Community's 1982 Statute of Autonomy officially recognises Valencian as the name of the regional language.

Marrecs de Salt is a group of castellers from Salt, Girona (Catalonia), founded in 1995. Their best human tower is the 5 in 8 and their best performance was on 27 October 2013 for the performance of Sant Narcís in the city of Girona, were they completed the 4 in 8, the 2 in 8 with double base, the 3 in 8 and the pillar of 6. Their shirt is blue standing for the river Ter, which flows through both Salt and Girona, as well as other regions of the province.

Guillem Agulló i Salvador was a Valencian anti-fascist and independence activist who was assassinated on 11 April 1993, by the neo-nazi Pedro Cuevas, in Montanejos. Agulló was a member of the leftist and independence organization Maulets, and of SHARP. His assassination, along with the assassination of Carlos Palomino, is a very famous case in Spain, where Agulló has become a symbol of anti-fascism and anti-racism. The slogal "Guillem Agulló, ni oblit, ni perdó", has become a popular anti-fascist slogan.
