William Maldwyn "Mal" Griffiths (8 March 1919 [1] – 5 April 1969 [2] ) was a Welsh footballer who played as an outside right for Leicester City and Wales. [2]
Born in Merthyr Tydfil, Griffiths started out in local football before signing for Arsenal. After a spell at Arsenal's nursery club Margate he returned to the senior team and played nine league games (scoring five goals) in 1937–38 as Arsenal won the old First Division. [3]
He moved to Leicester City for the 1938–39 season, and went on to play 373 League games for the Foxes over the next 18 years. [1] He also made 36 FA Cup appearances for Leicester, and along with wartime games, his overall total appearances numbered 420, with 79 goals scored. [4] He finished his career with Burton Albion. [1]
Griffiths also won eleven caps for Wales, scoring two goals. [1]

As a player, he first played for Southampton but made his name playing for Arsenal in the 1930s, winning two league titles and an FA Cup, as well as five caps for England. Drake is Arsenal's joint fifth highest goalscorer of all time. He also holds the record for the most goals scored in a top flight game in English football, with seven against Aston Villa in December 1935. A former centre forward, Drake has been described as a "classic number 9" and as a "strong, powerful, brave and almost entirely unthinking" player who "typified the English view."

He bookended his senior career playing at then non-league Queen of the South and Yeovil and Petters United. Halliday's three goals in the FA Cup proper for Yeovil give him a career total of 368 senior goals. From being player-manager at Yeovil, he went on to win trophies managing Aberdeen and Leicester City.

An outside right, Rogers appeared for Swansea Town in the abandoned 1939–40 Football League season, and played non-league football for Weston Rhyn, Llanerch Celts, Chirk, and Oswestry Town. Internationally, Rogers was capped for the Wales Amateur XI and played twice for his country in wartime internationals.
