The Malha Arena (officially called Lea and Maurice Goldberg Sports Hall) [1] is a multi-purpose indoor arena that is located in Jerusalem's Malha neighborhood, across from Ramat Denya and Ramat Sharett. The arena is primarily used to host basketball, futsal, and handball games, and gymnastics.
Despite its small size, the arena traps in noise, and distracts the opposing team. This gives a boost to players towards the end of the game, when they need it most, according to the former head coach of Hapoel Jerusalem, Guy Goodes. [2]
Malha Arena was the home arena of the Hapoel Jerusalem professional basketball team, from 1985 until 2014, when the team moved to the newly constructed Pais Arena. Construction of the Jerusalem Arena began in 2009, in Malha, east of Teddy Stadium. The Jerusalem Arena eventually replaced the Malha Arena as Hapoel's home venue in 2014.
Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club, known for sponsorship reasons as Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, is a professional basketball club based in the City of Jerusalem, Israel, and competes in the Israeli Basketball Premier League, the Israeli State Cup, and the Basketball Champions League. It has won several titles, including the ULEB Cup in 2004, the Israeli Basketball Premier League championship in 2015 and 2017, and seven state Cups. Uri Kokia is an Israeli professional basketball coach and a former professional basketball player. He is the current head coach for Ironi Ramat Gan of the Liga Artzit. Kokia played as a center/power forward position and was a member of the Israel national basketball team. He was named the Israeli Basketball Super League Most Improved Player in 2009. In November 2017, Kokia publicly came out as gay.
The Jerusalem Sports Quarter is an Israeli sporting facilities complex located in the Malha neighborhood of southwestern Jerusalem, Israel. The complex consists of major venues as well as other supplementary sport, recreation and entertainment facilities.
