Mali Rhys Harries (born 6 July 1976) is a Welsh television actress and presenter who has been in the television industry since 1989. [1] She has appeared in several well-established TV series in Welsh and English, including Hinterland , The Indian Doctor and Pobol y Cwm .

Career

Born in Cardiff, Harries attended Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf and graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. [2]

She is married to actor Matthew Gravelle. [1] She appeared alongside Gravelle in Baker Boys ; each is married to another character in the series. They appear as husband and wife in the S4C drama Un Bore Mercher in 2017, which aired on BBC One in 2018 in an English-language version as Keeping Faith . [3]

In 2010, she was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru award for Best Actress in the Welsh language TV drama, Caerdydd . [1]

Between 2013 and 2016, Harries won critical acclaim as a star in the detective series Y Gwyll (titled Hinterland in English), the first bilingual Welsh-English series to air on the BBC. [4] [5]

In 2014, Harries was voted into the top 10 of the Wales Online "Sexiest Woman in Wales" poll. [6]

Recently Harries has become known for her work with S4C, including the first series of Keeping Faith , her own crime documentary series Y Ditectif [7] and long-running soap Pobol y Cwm .

Personal life

Mali Harries is married to fellow Welsh performer Matthew Gravelle. The couple have played each other's on-screen significant other in several TV shows. [8]

HinterlandY Gwyll in the original Welsh language version — is a Welsh noir police procedural series broadcast on S4C in Welsh. The main character, DCI Tom Mathias, is played by Richard Harrington. On 27 November 2013, a second series was announced by S4C. The English-language version, with brief passages of Welsh dialogue, aired on BBC One Wales. When it was shown on the BBC in 2014, it was the first BBC television drama with dialogue in both English and Welsh. A third series of the show began filming in January 2016 and debuted on S4C on 30 October.

Christine Pritchard was a Welsh actress. She was best known in Wales for her role as the witch in Rala Rwdins, a children's show on S4C in the 1990s. She featured in numerous Welsh language films and television series, such as Glas y Dorlan, Dinas, Pobol y Cwm, Cara Fi, and Anita. Her other roles included appearances on The Indian Doctor, Doctors and Stella. On stage she performed regularly with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru. the Welsh-language national theatre of Wales.
