Malik Henry (born July 23, 2002) is a Canadian soccer player who plays for Toronto FC II in MLS Next Pro.
Henry began playing youth soccer at age four with Saltfleet Stoney Creek SC. [1] He later played with the Toronto FC Academy. [2]
In 2020, he began attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played for the men's soccer team. [3]
In 2021, he transferred to University of Akron to play for their men's soccer team. [4] At the end of the season, he was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team, [5] All-Ohio Second Team, [6] , and was ranked #50 on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Men's National Freshmen Top-100 Postseason list. [7] In 2022, he was named to the All-MAC First Team. [8] In 2023, he was named to the All-Big East Conference Second Team [9] and the 2023 All-East Region Third Team. [10] After the 2023 season, he was draft in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft by CF Montréal, [11] however, he chose to return to Akron for the 2024 year to finish his degree and complete his final season of eligibility. [12] Ahead of the 2024 season, he was named to the Big East All-Preseason Team. [13] On September 28, 2024, he scored his first career collegiate goal in a 1-0 victory over the Gerogetown Hoyas. [14] At the end of the 2024 season, he was named to the All-Big East Second Team and the All-East Region First Team. [15] [16]
In 2022, he played with Hamilton United in League1 Ontario. [17] He scored one goal for the club in a 5-1 victory over Scrosoppi FC. [18]
In 2023, he played with the Flint City Bucks in USL League Two. [19]
At the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, Henry was selected in the 2nd round (39th overall) by CF Montréal. [20]
In March 2024, he signed with Toronto FC II in MLS Next Pro. [21]
He made his debut in the Canadian national program in February 2017, attending a camp with the Canada U15 team. [1] In August, he was named to the roster for the 2017 CONCACAF Boys' Under-15 Championship. [1]
