Mall of the Bluffs was a shopping mall in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States. Built in 1986, the mall featured J. C. Penney, Dillard's, Sears, and Target as its anchor stores at its peak. After both JCPenney and Target moved to other developments in Council Bluffs, it began a sharp decline in tenancy throughout the 2010s. The mall closed on December 30, 2019, and demolition began one year later.
Mall of the Bluffs opened in 1986. Developed by General Growth Properties, it was the second mall in the Council Bluffs area after Midlands Mall, which was located downtown and which was redeveloped after Mall of the Bluffs opened. [2] It received two expansions in its history: Dillard's in 1988, [3] and Sears a decade afterward. [4]
The mall began losing anchor stores in the 21st century. J. C. Penney moved in 2008, [1] and Target one year later. [5] Barnes & Noble, another major tenant, closed in 2011. [6] One year later, Sears closed as well. [4]
General Growth Properties sold the mall to Namdar Realty Group in 2013. At the time of the sale, the mall was nearly 25 percent vacant. [1] Many inline tenants had closed or relocated following the relocation of both J. C. Penney and Target, creating further vacancy issues throughout; despite this, Planet Fitness replaced Barnes & Noble shortly after the purchase by Namdar. Due to the increasing vacancy, the mall was put up for auction in 2015. [2]
In 2018, the former J. C. Penney became an overstock store called It's $5. [7] Council Bluffs Community School District purchased the former Target building in 2019 and began using it as a temporary relocation of two local middle schools which would be undergoing renovation. [8] The last anchor store, Dillard's, also closed in 2019. For many years prior to its closure, the store had been downgraded to an outlet store. [3]
Home improvement chain Menards purchased the mall at the end of 2019. At this point, the few remaining mall tenants were given eviction notices, [9] and the mall closed on December 31. [10] Menards plans to demolish the mall and build a new store on the site. [11]
Rolling Acres Mall was a shopping mall located in the Rolling Acres area of Akron, Ohio, United States. Built in 1975, it originally included approximately 21 stores, with Sears as the main anchor store. Later expansions added several more stores including anchor stores JCPenney, Montgomery Ward, and O'Neil's, along with a movie theater and food court. Montgomery Ward was converted to Higbee's in 1986, and then to Dillard's in 1992, while O'Neil's became May Company Ohio, Kaufmann's, and then finally Macy's. The fifth anchor store was Target, added in 1995. At its peak, the mall had over 150 stores. It underwent a sharp decline in tenancy throughout the 1990s and into the first decade of the 21st century, resulting in the relocation of Target and closure of Dillard's. Macy's and the mall itself both shuttered in 2008, although Sears remained operational until 2011, and JCPenney as an outlet store until 2013. Rolling Acres Mall was publicized after its closure as an example of a dead mall, and non-retail ventures operated out of the former locations of Target, Sears, and Dillard's. The mall was finally demolished in stages between 2017 and 2019, with Amazon building a distribution facility on the former site soon after.
Stratford Square Mall was a shopping mall that opened on March 9, 1981, in Bloomingdale, Illinois, a northwestern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Originally owned by Urban Retail Properties Co., the 1,300,000-square-foot (120,000 m2) indoor shopping mall was designed by RTKL Associates, and built by Graycor of Oakbrook Terrace, IL. Just before its closing, Stratford Square had six vacant anchor spaces that were last occupied by JCPenney, Carson Pirie Scott, Sears, Round One, Century Theatres, and Burlington. The former Marshall Field's/Macy's space was demolished in 2019 to make way for a new Woodman's Food Market grocery store building. The mall was bought by Namdar Realty Group in 2019. On January 22, 2024, the Village of Bloomingdale purchased the mall and gave all of the remaining tenants in the mall a 90-day notice. The mall closed on April 21, 2024.
Spring Hill Mall was a shopping mall in West Dundee, Illinois. The mall's anchor tenants are currently Kohl's and Cinemark. There are four vacant anchor stores that were once Carson Pirie Scott, Sears, Macy's, and Barnes & Noble.
Crossroads Center is a shopping mall located in Waterloo, Iowa, United States. It was built in 1970 as one of the first malls in Iowa. It has five vacant anchors formerly occupied by Sears, Dillard's, Gordmans, Younkers, and At Home. It is owned by Namdar Realty Group. It is located in the heart of a retail hub that includes a 12 screen theater, Best Buy, Super Target, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and many other national tenants. The mall is located near the interchange of Interstate 380 and U.S. Highway 20.
WestGate Mall is a shopping mall in Spartanburg, South Carolina, off Interstate 26 and US Highway 29 on West Blackstock Road in the city's primary shopping market. The regional mall has 954,302 square feet (88,657.6 m2) of retail space and four anchor stores: Belk, Costco, Dillard's, and JCPenney.

Midland Mall is an enclosed shopping mall serving Midland, Michigan, United States. Opened in 1991, the mall's anchor stores are Target, Hobby Lobby, Barnes & Noble, Dunham's Sports, and Planet Fitness. A fourth anchor store spot, once occupied by Sears, is occupied by MyMichigan Health System and is non-commercial. Panama City Mall was a single story enclosed shopping mall in Panama City, Florida. Opened in 1976, it featured J. C. Penney, Gayfers, and Sears as its anchor stores. It is owned and managed by Hendon Properties of Atlanta as of September 2013, purchased from CBL & Associates Properties. The mall closed due to Hurricane Michael and received major damages. It will not be reopening. However, a possible redevelopment of the site was proposed in July 2020 for a potential redevelopment for an open-air retail center with a hotel, residential apartments, and office space, much like Pier Park to the west in Panama City Beach
