Malbert "Mally" Smith IV is an American political commentator and Democratic Party strategist.

Early life and education

Smith is the son of Malbert Smith III, an educational researcher and business executive, and Alisa Edwards Smith. [1] [2] He and his two sisters grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. [2] [1] He is a grandson of Rev. Malbert Smith Jr., who was a Southern Baptist minister at Grey Stone Baptist Church in Durham. [3]

He was homeschooled, attended Northwood High School, and attended the Hill Leaning Center, the latter of which was founded by his parents. [1] Smith earned a bachelor's degree in political science and women's and gender studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a master's degree in policy and politics from George Washington University, and a master's degree in policy and politics from the University of Cambridge. Career

Smith is a Democratic strategist, campaign political director, and news commentator. [4] He served in the Biden Administration as an advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the United States Department of Labor within the United States Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs. [1]

He served as a political director for the Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign in North Carolina. [5] Smith is a resident political commentator on the American cable news program Newsmax. [6] In July 2025, Smith gave political commentary on Fox News. [7]

Personal life

Smith has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. [1]
