Malnes is a settlement in the municipality of in Nordland county, Norway. Malnes lies along the mouth of Malnesfjord in the northwest part of the municipality. Malnes is now considered the southwestern part of the village of Hovden, but it was formerly a separate farming settlement.

The Litløy Lighthouse is located on the tiny island of Litløya off the coast of Bø.

Geography

The hill Malnesberget (529 meters or 1,736 feet) rises south of Malnes. [2] Norwegian County Road 915 connects Malnes to Hovden in the north and to Nykvåg to the southwest. [3]

Malnesberget is a 529-metre (1,736 ft) mountain in the municipality of Bø in Nordland county, Norway. The mountain stands on the western side of the large island of Langøya, along the Malnesfjorden, just south of the villages of Hovden and Malnes. It can be climbed from the village of Malnes starting about 500 meters (1,600 ft) north of Tussen, a smaller hill located along Norwegian County Road 915, just west of Malnesberget.

Nykvåg Village in Northern Norway, Norway

Nykvåg is a fishing village in Bø Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is one of the largest fishing villages on the west coast of the large island of Langøya in the Vesterålen archipelago. The village lies along the south side of Nykvåg bay and the neighboring village to the west is Vågen. The villages of Hovden and Malnes are located about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of Nykvåg. Nykvåg is also known for its rich bird life in the Nykvåg/Nykan Nature Reserve adjacent to the village.

History

A church was established at Malnes in the Middle Ages, and Malnes served as the clerical center of the former parish of Malnes in the Bø ecclesiastical district (Bø herred). [4] In 1829, Malnes Church was moved from Malnes to Eidet, [5] but it is still known as Malnes Church. [6] Today it is part of parish of Bø og Malnes. [6]

Malnes Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bø Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Eide. It is the church for the Bø og Malnes parish which is part of the Vesterålen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1895 by the architect Ole Scheistrøen. The church seats about 320 people.

The village is located about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) northeast of the municipal centre of Straume. Malnes Church was moved here from the small village of Malnes, just south of the village of Hovden in 1829.

Hovden is a fishing village in Bø Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located at the northern tip of a peninsula on the island of Langøya, on the west side of the Malnesfjorden. The ocean lies to the north and west of the village. The road that goes to Hovden ends at the village. The habitation of Hovden, on the outermost point on a peninsula of the third-largest island in Norway (Langøya) is because of the closeness to the rich fishing banks off of the Vesterålen archipelago. Bø Church is a parish church in Hyllestad Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located in the village of hattfjelldal. Malnesfjord fjord in Vesterålen, Norway

Malnesfjorden or Malnesfjord is a fjord in Bø Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 6.5-kilometre (4.0 mi) long fjord is located between two peninsulas on the northwestern part of the island of Langøya in the Vesterålen archipelago. The inlet to the fjord lies between the village of Hovden to the northwest and the Godvika inlet to the northeast. The fjord reaches a depth of 161 meters (528 ft) southwest of Godvika. The mountain Malnesberget lies on the western shore of the fjord.

Fjellgardane Church is a parish church in Bykle municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hovden. The church is part of the Bykle parish in the Otredal deanery in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The brown, wooden church was built in 1957. The church seats about 110 people. Originally, the church was called Hovden Chapel when it was consecrated on 22 September 1957 by the Bishop Johannes Smidt. In 2002, the church was renovated by the architect Torjus Bjåen and it was enlarged to become Fjellgardane Church.
