History

In November 1983, Charis Grace Onabowale [3] opened the first location at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos State. [4] [5] [6] The first outlet carried for the first time the brand “Mama Cass Cafeteria”. Mama Cass Restaurants currently owns a chain of about 14 quick service restaurants and has expanded its service locations to other parts of the country. [3] Besides Lagos, other outlets are located in other Nigerian states including Ogun, Edo, FCT, and also in the United Kingdom. [4] [7] [8] Mama Cass specializes in home cooked traditional African meals and international cuisines and other specialties like Oven Fresh pastries, Jaydens Sliced Bread. In addition to the restaurant chain, a bakery and Industrial catering also operates. It has expanded into industrial canteen management, private function catering and high volume bread production. [9]

Being the oldest restaurant chain in America, A&W's origins date back to 1919 when Roy W. Allen set up a roadside drink stand to offer a new thick and creamy drink, root beer, at a parade honoring returning World War I veterans in Lodi, California. Allen's employee Frank Wright partnered with him in 1922 and they founded their first restaurant in Sacramento, California in 1923. The company name was taken from the initials of their last names – Allen and Wright. Kehinde Kamson is a Nigerian entrepreneur, business leader, and philanthropist. She works in the fast food and business sectors in Nigeria. She is best known as the Founder and CEO of Sweet Sensation Confectionery Limited – one of the strongest brands in the fast food industry in Nigeria which she started from a backyard shed and a tiny converted security house with just two used air conditioners and a few other refurbished scrap equipment, after giving up a lucrative accounting career. She is one of those credited with changing the competitive outlook of the Quick Service Restaurant industry in Nigeria thereby leading to the astronomical growth seen in the industry in the 90s and first decade of the 2000s.
