Mamarumo Marokane (15 August, 1996) is a South African actor and presenter. She known for her appearances in Shadow and MTV Shuga.

Early life

Marokane was born in tafelkop Limpopo province. [1] She studied at CityVarsity School of Media and Creative Arts. She can speak English, Sepedi and Setswana. [2]

Career

She played the character of leading character on the South African soap opera Scandal!. Marokane gained prominence through her appearances in the Netflix series Shadow . [3]

In February 2020, Marokane was named one of four rising stars by Cosmopolitan South Africa . [1] The others who appeared were Shonisani Masutha, Ama Qamata and Kuhle Adams. [4]

She joined MTV Shuga Alone Together highlighting the problems of Coronavirus on 20 April 2020. [5] [6]

In 2023 she was part of the Netflix series Miseducation. [7] The college drama was very popular in South Africa [8]

<i>Shuga Naija</i> Season of television series

The third season of the television drama series Shuga, dubbed Shuga Naija, was first broadcast on MTV Base from December 2013 to January 2014. The season was written by Kemi Adesoye and directed by Biyi Bandele. It starred Tiwa Savage, Chris Attoh, Maria Okanrende, Emmanuel Ikubese, Sharon Ezeamaka, Efa Iwara, Dorcas Shola Fapson, Okezie Morro, Timini Egbuson, Kachi Nnochiri, Sanni Mu'azu and Leonora Okine. Shuga Naija is a multimedia campaign which educates youths on HIV, safe sex and teen pregnancy. It also touches on maternal and child health, family planning, gender-based violence, and women empowerment. The television series, which consists of eight episodes, was shot and set in Lagos State, produced in partnership with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
