Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay CIE, popularly known as Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, was an Indian educator and social reformer of the nineteenth century. His efforts to simplify and modernise Bengali prose were significant. He also rationalised and simplified the Bengali alphabet and type, which had remained unchanged since Charles Wilkins and Panchanan Karmakar had cut the first (wooden) Bengali type in 1780.
Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay was an Indian Bengali-language writer. He was actively involved with Bengali cinema as well as Bollywood. Contai is a coastal and subdivisional city and a municipality in Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of the Contai subdivision. It is the second most populated city of the district.According to the geologists, the present geographical dimension of Contai came into existence with the great natural disaster of the third century AD (flood), which created Chilka lake out of the Chilka Bay. Kanthi, that is Contai, means "sand-bound reefs" or sand walls. The name Contai may thus be an English expression of the local jargon meaning "sand heaps".

Gaurav Chakrabarty is an Indian Bengali film and television actor best known for his portrayal of the character Prodipto Lahiri in the Bengali musical TV series Gaaner Oparey that aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June 2010 to 16 April 2011. It is affiliated to University of Kalyani. Manabi Bandopadhyay, India's first openly transgender college principal, began work as such as the principal of Krishnagar Women's College in 2015.

Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) is a public state research university located in Asansol, West Bengal. The CM Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone on 10 January 2013. Jhimli Mukherjee Pandey (1972–2021) was an Indian journalist, translator, and writer. She worked as a journalist and editor with The Times of India for 24 years, and authored eight books in the Bengali language. In addition, she published several translations, including Bengali editions of two books by politician and writer Shashi Tharoor, as well as books by Sunil Gangopadhay and Amar Mitra. She died in 2021, following a car accident.

Trans poetry is a genre of literature that explores the individuality, gender identity, and accounts of life experience by transgender poets. This genre of poetry encompasses one’s journey highlighting their life’s challenges, inspirations, and perspectives within their life and the transgender community. Some aspects of trans poetry fall under the umbrella of protest literature and speaks to the hegemonic worldview, presenting the agenda of injustice subjected by the oppressed. Other examples of trans poetry analyze the adversities endured by binary trans-women and men. The categories listed explores the contributions of notable trans-poets such as Lee Mokobe, author of "What it Feels Like to be a Transgender", Ely Shipley, author of "Boy with Flowers" and Shilok Mukkati, author of "Kinnaras of the Dark World".
