Mandy Foot is a South Australian based illustrator of children's picture books, graphic design and artwork. She has won a number of awards including a Crystal Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and a Karajia Award, the Wilderness Society's Environment Award for Children's Literature.

Career

Foot commenced her illustration career working at the Adelaide Zoo Education Service where she worked for over 15 years. [1] She has illustrated over 25 books specifically for young children under the age of seven. [2] Most of her work focusses on Australian themes, particularly anthropomorphic animals and birds in rural settings. [3]

Patricia Wrightson OBE was an Australian writer of several highly regarded and influential children's books. Employing a 'magic realism' style, her books, including the award-winning The Nargun and the Stars (1973), were among the first Australian books for children to draw on Australian Aboriginal mythology. The Crystal Kite Award is given by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) each year to recognize great books from the 70 SCBWI regions around the world. Along with the SCBWI Golden Kite Awards, the Crystal Kite Awards are chosen by other children's book writers and illustrators, making them the only peer-given awards in publishing for young readers.
