Background

Manel Loureiro is a writer, journalist, and former lawyer born in Pontevedra, Spain, in 1975. He earned a law degree at the University of Santiago de Compostela, and has worked as a television presenter in the Television de Galicia1 and as a screenwriter. He collaborates with the daily newspapers of Pontevedra, newspaper ABC.2 and World.3, and is a regular contributor to the Cadena SER and to GQ magazine's Spanish edition. El Confidencial has called him the Spanish Stephen King. [1]

Novels

Apocalypse Z series

His first novel, Apocalypse Z #1: The Beginning of the End (in Spanish: Apocalipsis Z: El Principio Del Fin), [2] began as a popular blog before its publication and eventually become a bestseller in several countries, including Brazil, Italy, and Spain. AmazonCrossing published book one in English, in October 2012,[ citation needed ] and the book was translated into Galician in 2013. [3] A film adaptation has also been proposed. [4]

Loureiro has written two sequel novels in the Apocalypse Z series: Apocalypse Z #2: Dark Days (2010: in Spanish, Los días oscuros), [5] [6] and Apocalypse Z #3: The Wrath of the Just (2011: in Spanish, La ira de los justos). [7] Books two and three have been translated into English, Italian, and Portuguese, and book two was translated into Galician in 2014. [8]

The Last Passenger

Loureiro's next book, The Last Passenger (2013: in Spanish, El último pasajero), is about a Nazi ghost ship. [9] The novel was translated into English by Andres Alfaro.

Only She Sees

Loureiro's most recent book is Only She Sees (2015; in Spanish: Fulgor). [10] The novel was translated into English by Andres Alfaro.

Personal life

Loureiro currently resides in Pontevedra, Spain, [11] where he is a full-time writer.[ citation needed ]

El día que me quieras is an Argentine tango with music by Carlos Gardel and lyrics by Alfredo Le Pera. It is considered one of the most popular songs of the 20th century and one of the best Latin songs of all time. Originally featured in the 1935 film of the same name, sung by Gardel himself, it became a heavily recorded tango standard, even by artists outside of the realm of tango. It has subsequently been covered by various artists such as Luis Miguel, Julio Iglesias, Michael Bolton Roberto Carlos, Raphael de España and Shlomo Idov who translated the song to Hebrew. The Last Passenger

The Last Passenger is a 2013 novel written by Manel Loureiro. The plot is about a British journalist named Kate Kilroy who wants to finish her late husband's last story, which tells the story of the Valkyrie, a German 1930's ocean liner where mysterious disappearances have occurred since its maiden voyage. With the desire to finish the story and some curiosity, Kate decides to board the vessel on its new voyage, a voyage from which she might never return. Kate Kilroy boards the Valkyrie in Hamburg, Germany. 20 days after its publishing, The Last Passenger was listed on Amazon US's Best Sellers and is the first Spanish author to achieve this.

Antón Losada Diéguez

Antón Losada Diéguez was a writer, Galician politician, member of the Irmandades da Fala of Ourense, promoter of the magazine Nós and correspondent of the Royal Galician Academy. He was author of half a dozen books of poetry, seven books, two political writings, the incomplete work A domeadora and the speech Ouservacións encol da prosa galega. He became a member in the Seminar of Galician Studies. He was honoured on the Day of the Galician Letters of 1985.

Antón Fraguas

Antonio Fraguas Fraguas was born in Insuela, Loureiro parish (Cerdedo-Cotobade), on December 28, 1905, and died in Santiago de Compostela on November 5, 1999. He was an important Galicianist historian, ethnographer, anthropologist, and geographer. In 1923 he and some of his fellows founded the Sociedade da Lingua, whose main goals were the defense of the Galician language and the creation of a dictionary. He was a member of Irmandades da Fala and Seminario de Estudos Galegos and was high school professor after the Spanish Civil War broke out. He was part of the Father Sarmiento Institute for Galician Studies and the Royal Galician Academy, and was director and president of the Museum of the Galician People, member of the Council of Galician Culture, and a chronicler of Galicia. He spent his life studying Galician culture and its territory from different perspectives, with a special focus and mastery on anthropology.
