Mangalore, officially Mangaluru, is a major port city of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is located between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats about 352 km (219 mi) west of Bangalore, the state capital. Mangalore is the state's only city to have all four modes of transport—air, road, rail and sea. The population of the urban agglomeration was 619,664 according to the 2011 national census of India. It is best known for being one of the locations of the Indian strategic petroleum reserves.

József Várszegi was a Hungarian athlete who competed in the javelin throw. Among his best results are a European Championships bronze medal from 1938 and an Olympic Games bronze from 1948. Várszegi won the Hungarian national championships a record 20 times between 1932 and 1952 and also broke the Hungarian national record six times during his career.

Veterans Memorial Stadium is a stadium in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The original Veterans Memorial Stadium facility was built in 1948. It was demolished in 2008 and a new structure opened in 2009. It seats 10,000, with around 6,200 seats in the main grandstand. The stadium is primarily used for football and track and field. It is the home field of the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Eagles. The 10-lane, 400 meter track complex has hosted several NCAA championships and hosts the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state high school track and field championships each June. Craig Kinsley is a retired American track and field athlete and 2012 Olympian who competed in the javelin throw, and is now an assistant coach of Brown University track and field. In 2010, he won the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and was named as an Academic All-American by the USATFCCCA. He also placed third at the US National Championships that year. In 2012, he placed third at the Olympic Trials and qualified to represent the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The National Winter Games have been held in Gulmarg in 1996, 2004 and 2008. The first Khelo India Winter Games were held in February and March 2020 in Leh and Gulmarg. Jammu and Kashmir won the most gold medals while the Indian Army team came second with 8 gold medals. The second edition of the winter games were also held successfully in Gulmarg in 2020 with Jammu and Kashmir coming first and Karnataka second.
