The Manila Storm is a Philippine rugby league team based in Manila. They play in the Philippines National Rugby League Championship.

History

The club was formed by Papua New Guinean native Timothy Buipe. Their first match was a loss to a Hong Kong residents XIII 40–34 at the Southern Plains Field, Calamba, Laguna. [1] Their second match was a win against the Albay Vulcans 30–14 in what is believed to be the first full 13-a-side domestic rugby league match in the Philippines. [2]

The New Zealand Warriors 2010 season was the New Zealand Warriors 16th first-grade season. The club competed in Australasia's National Rugby League and finished fifth in regular season before being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. The coach of the team was Ivan Cleary while Simon Mannering was the club's captain. The Warriors won the club championship award for having the best combined results between the first grade team and the under-20s. The Junior Warriors then went on to win the Toyota Cup grand final, the club's first grand final win in sixteen years.

Cagsawa Ruins Destroyed church in the Philippines

The Cagsawa Ruins are the remnants of a 16th-century Franciscan church, the Cagsawa church. It was originally built in the town of Cagsawa in 1587 but was burned down and destroyed by Dutch pirates in 1636. It was rebuilt in 1724 by Fr. Francisco Blanco, but was destroyed again, along with the town of Cagsawa, on February 1, 1814, during the eruption of the Mayon Volcano.

Typhoon Betty (1987)

Typhoon Betty, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Herming, was a powerful and destructive tropical cyclone that struck the Philippines in August 1987. The seventh typhoon and second super typhoon of the active typhoon season, it formed from the monsoon trough that spawned a tropical cyclone on August 8 while around positioned well to the east of the Philippines. It drifted northwestward, becoming a tropical storm on August 9 and a typhoon on August 10. Betty turned westward, where it rapidly intensified before attaining peak intensity on August 11. The next day, Typhoon Betty made landfall in the central Philippines. Betty weakened rapidly over the country, but restrengthened somewhat over the South China Sea. Land interaction weakened Betty slightly before it hit central Vietnam on August 16. The next day, Betty dissipated.

Effects of Typhoon Durian in the Philippines

Typhoon Durian, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Reming, caused heavy damage across the island nation in November 2006. On November 30, 2006, Durian became the fourth typhoon equivalent to a Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale to strike the Philippine island of Luzon, having earlier brushed the offshore Catanduanes. The storm crossed the country, but damage was heaviest in southeastern Luzon, particularly around the Mayon Volcano in the Bicol region. Intense rainfall affecting the volcano, estimated at around 600 mm (24 in), caused deadly lahars, or volcanic landslides. Six nearby villages were nearly destroyed, with thousands of homes washed away in minutes.
