The Samata Party (SAP) is a political party in India,initially formed in 1994 by George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar. It was an offshoot of the Janata Dal,with the alleged casteism of the parent party being the reason given for the split. The party has socialist leanings,and at one point wielded considerable political and social influence in North India,particularly in Bihar.

Ram Vilas Paswan was an Indian politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs,Food and Public Distribution in the first and second Modi ministries. Paswan was also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party,nine-times Lok Sabha member and two-time Rajya Sabha MP. He started his political career as member of Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. Later,Paswan joined Lok Dal upon its formation in 1974,and became its general secretary. He opposed the emergency,and was arrested during this period. Ram Kripal Yadav is an Indian politician and a member of the 17th Lok Sabha from the Pataliputra parliamentary constituency in Bihar. He was a member of Rashtriya Janata Dal and was a close confidante of Lalu Yadav. Later he joined Bharatiya Janata Party. He was first a mayor in Bihar,and later the Minister of State for Rural Development in central cabinet in Delhi from 2014 to 2019.
Satyendra Narayan Sinha was an Indian politician and statesman,participant in the Indian independence movement,a leading light of Jaya Prakash Narayan's ‘complete revolution’movement during the Emergency and a former Chief Minister of Bihar. Affectionately called Chhote Saheb,he was also a seven-time Member of Parliament from the Aurangabad constituency,a three-term Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly,and a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council once. Regarded to be one of India's most influential regional people of the time,his reputation was synonymous with being a strict disciplinarian and tough taskmaster.

Digvijay Singh was an Indian politician from the state of Bihar,and an associate of George Fernandes of Janata Dal and later Samata Party. He represented Banka in the Lok Sabha a few times. He was elected to Rajya Sabha twice. He died on 24 June 2010 in London after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
