Maputsoe is a town and constituency located in the northern district of Leribe in Lesotho; it shares a border-post with Ficksburg in the Free State province of South Africa, with the Mohokare River forming the national boundary. It has a population of 55,541.

The Irish NGO 'Action Lesotho', which works in Maputsoe, was set up by politician Mannete Ramali, whilst she was Ambassador to Ireland. [1]

Villages

Maputsoe includes the villages of Mathata, Ha Nyenye (Ha Maputsoe, Khomo-lia-oela, Ha Chonapase, Phukalla, Mohalalitoe and Ha Maqele), Ha Motlalehi and Ha Chaka.[ clarification needed ]

Semonkong is a community council located in the Maseru District of Lesotho. Semonkong, meaning "Place of Smoke", was established in the 1880s as a refuge for Basotho displaced by the Gun War. It is located close to several major natural features, including the Maletsunyane Falls and the 3096-metre peak of Thaba Putsoa. The population in 2006 was 7,781.

Ha Baroana is a site in Lesotho noted for its early rock art. The site is located close to Nazareth village, to the east of the capital, Maseru.

The Kome Caves are a group of cave dwellings made out of mud in the district of Berea, Lesotho 25 km east of Teyateyaneng. The caves are still inhabited by the descendants of the original people who built the caves. The site has been classified as a National Heritage Site.

Phetetso Monese is a cross-country mountain biker who placed 21st at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He currently races on the Ace - The Sufferfest - Lesotho MTB Team and is the highest ranked black African rider on the UCI rankings. Phetetso Monese is also part of the first Basotho team to feature as part of the podium of the UCI Lesotho Sky stage race coming 2nd overall and winning day 4 of the event. Monese has qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Olympic cyclist from Lesotho.

Tourism in Lesotho is a growing industry in the country.
