Marafa is a settlement in Kenya's Kilifi County. Best known for the Marafa Depression, a vast canyon-like area resulting from soil erosion.

2007 Cameroonian parliamentary election

Parliamentary elections were held in Cameroon on 22 July 2007, with voting in some districts re-run on 30 September. Local elections were held on the same day, with seats on 363 town councils at stake. The result was a victory for the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (RDPC), which won 153 of the 180 seats in the National Assembly, whilst the main opposition party, the Social Democratic Front (SDF), won 16 seats.

Issa Hayatou

Issa Hayatou is a Cameroonian former athlete and sports executive. He served as the acting FIFA president until 26 February 2016 as the previous president, Sepp Blatter, was banned from all football-related activities in 2015 as a part of the FIFA corruption investigation of 2015. He was the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) between 1988 and 2017. In 2002, he ran for president of FIFA but was defeated by Blatter. He is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

2008 Cameroonian anti-government protests

The 2008 Cameroon protests were a series of violent demonstrations in Cameroon's biggest cities that took place from 25 to 29 February 2008. The protests followed on the heels of a strike by transport workers, who were opposing high fuel prices and poor working conditions. Further political turmoil had been caused by President Paul Biya's announcement that he wanted the constitution to be amended to remove term limits; without such an amendment, he would have to leave office at the end of his term in 2011. Large groups of youths, whom the opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) political party and the government blame one another for organising, took to the streets of Douala, Yaoundé, Bamenda, and other major cities, looting and vandalising property. The government sent in troops to crack down on the unrest, and protesters and troops alike were killed. The official government tally is that 40 people were killed, but human rights groups claim that the total is closer to 100. Government figures place damage to property at tens of billions of francs CFA.

Cameroon Airlines Flight 3701 1995 aviation accident

Cameroon Airlines Flight 3701 was an air accident that occurred on 3 December 1995. The Boeing 737-200, registration TJ-CBE, crashed after it lost control near Douala, Cameroon. On its second approach to Douala International Airport power was lost to one engine. The accident killed 71 passengers and crew and five people were injured but survived.

Alhaji Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari is a Nigerian politician who was elected Governor of Zamfara State, Nigeria in the 26 April 2011 national elections, running on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform following the merger of the ANPP and several other opposition parties into the now-governing All Progressives Congress, Yari became a member of the All Progressives Congress.

Corruption in Cameroon Institutional corruption in the country

Since independence, corruption has been more than prevalent in Cameroon. In fact, corruption has become pervasive and has affected all sectors of the government and civil society including the executive, judiciary, police, and even the private sector. The main causes being a deep lack of political will to fight corruption and neopatrimonialism. Other causes include; personal interests & absence of duty conscience, weak judiciary & almost nonexistent opposition in the legislative, nepotism & favouritism, ineffective system of accountability, among others.

Muhammadu Maiturare was Sultan of Sokoto from 1915 until his death in 1924. He was a descendant of Abu Bakr Atiku, and son of Sultan Ahmadu Atiku; his mother was a daughter of a Tuareg chief.

Umaru bin Ali (c.1824–1891) was Sultan of Sokoto from 3 October 1881 to 25 March 1891. He succeeded Sultan Mu'azu after the latter's death in September 1881. Ali was a great grandson of Uthman dan Fodio, grandson of Muhammed Bello and son of Aliyu Babba.

Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf

Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf is a Nigerian politician who has been the All Progressives Congress Member of the Senate for the constituency of Taraba Central since 2015. He was declared the winner of the seat in the Senate on 29 September 2015 after a tribunal following the Nigerian general election, 2015. People's Democratic Party candidate Bashir Marafa had previously been declared the winner of the seat, but was replaced by Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf when the tribunal found there to have been electoral inconsistencies.

Mukhtar Shehu Idris is a Nigerian administrator and politician. He was the Governor-elect of Zamfara State in the 2019 gubernatorial election under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC). Five days to his inauguration as governor of Zamfara State the Supreme Court annulled the election of Idris and all APC candidates in the 2019 elections and ordered Independent National Electoral Commission to declare all first runners in the election who satisfied the requirements of the law winners of the polls. His major challenger for the nomination of the APC for the governorship election in the state, Kabir Marafa [marafan gusau] had gone to court on the ground that APC in Zamfara did not conduct primaries and prayed the court to disqualify all candidates of the party in the 2019 polls. Opposition People's Democratic Party candidates who lost at the polls were declared winners and became the major beneficiaries of the crisis in the APC. In January 2020, APC approached the Supreme Court for review of its earlier judgment but in a ruling on the 27 of March, 2020 the court declined a review of its own judgment which it said it is final and bidding on all parties in the case.

Mohammed Umar Bago Nigerian politician

Mohammed Umar Bago is a Nigerian politician. He was born in Minna, Niger State, to a Nupe family, He is a member of parliament for Chanchaga, Federal Constituency. He stands with the All Progressives Congress Party. He ran in the 9th National Assembly, contesting for Speaker House of Representatives of Nigeria. He came second to Femi Gbajabiamila.

Abdullahi Bawa Wuse is a Nigerian legal practitioner and politician who was elected Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly in 2019. He was elected to the state assembly for the first term in March 2019 on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent Tafa constituency. The house standing order was waved to allow first term house members to contest in the election.  Wuse was a sole candidate in the election and emerged speaker of the house through a unanimous vote following his nomination by Ahmed Mohammed Marafa who was the immediate speaker of the House.

Ahmed Mohammed Marafa is a Nigerian politician who was elected spearker of the 8th Niger State House of Assembly in 2015. Marafa was elected to the state assembly from Chanchaga on the platform of All Progressives Congress. He was nominated for speakership position by Bashir Lokogoma representing Wushishi Constituency and seconded by Bako Alfa from Bida North Constituency. After taking oath of office, Marafa said he would evolve meaningful legislation that would uplift the condition of the people.

The Niger State House of Assembly is the legislative arm of the government of Niger State of Nigeria. It is a unicameral legislature with 27 members elected from the 25 local government areas of the state. Local government areas with considerable lager population are delineated into two constituencies to give equal representation. This makes the number of legislators in the Niger State House of Assembly 27.

The 2019 Zamfara State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. APC's Mukhtar Shehu Idris polled 67.41% of the total popular votes, defeating PDP's Bello Matawalle who got 23.89% of the total votes and trailed behind by a margin of 345,089 votes, and several minor party candidates. APC swept the entire 14 LGAs of the state, winning in all. It was, however, Matawalle, who was later declared winner by the INEC and sworn in as governor after the verdict of the Supreme Court, which declared Idris' votes as 'wasted'.
