World Aquatics, formerly known as FINA, is the international federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competitions in water sports. It is one of several international federations which administer a given sport or discipline for both the IOC and the international community. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Diana Nyad is an American author, journalist, motivational speaker, and long-distance swimmer. Nyad gained national attention in 1975 when she swam around Manhattan in record time, and in 1979 when she swam from North Bimini, The Bahamas, to Juno Beach, Florida. In 2013, on her fifth attempt and at age 64, she succeeded in swimming from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida, completing the third known swim crossing of the Florida Straits after Walter Poenisch in 1978, and Susie Maroney in 1997. Both of those earlier efforts involved a shark cage and, in Poenisch's case, fins and several short rests on his escort craft. Nyad used a protective jellyfish suit, shark divers, and electronic shark repellent devices. Her crossing from Cuba to Florida was denied ratification due to incomplete documentation, conflicting crew reports and rules from an organization that did not exist at the time of the swim. The Guinness Book of World Records revoked Nyad’s achievement.
The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup is an international series of swimming meets organized by World Aquatics. Launched in 1988, the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup is staged between August and November every year and attracts a high level of athletes due to the considerable prize money on offer. The event is traditionally held in short course format, with a switch to long course format in pre-Olympics years.

Para swimming is an adaptation of the sport of swimming for athletes with disabilities. Para swimmers compete at the Summer Paralympic Games and at other sports competitions throughout the world. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee. Both men and women compete in para swimming, racing against competitors of their own gender. Swimming has been a part of the Paralympic program since the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy.
Florent Manaudou is a French competitive swimmer, an Olympic champion of the 50-meter freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics, and the younger brother of Laure Manaudou, a 2004 Olympic gold medalist in swimming. He currently holds the world record in the 50-meter backstroke. He competes for the Energy Standard Swim Club in the International Swimming League.
Kliment Andreyevich Kolesnikov is a Russian swimmer. He holds world junior records in eight events: 50/100/200 back in long course, as well as 200 free, 50/100/200 back and 100 IM in short course.
The Arab Swimming Championships are the Arab championships in the sport of Swimming. It is organized by the Arab Swimming Confederation (ASC) and held biennially. The first edition was held in August 2012 in Amman, Jordan.
