Marc C. McGovern is a Cambridge (Massachusetts) City Council member and was the 78th mayor from 2018 until 2020. [1] [2] [3]
McGovern grew up in Central Square,Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. [4] In 2003,he began his political career on the Cambridge School Committee. After serving four terms on the Committee,he was elected to the Cambridge City Council in 2013. [2] [5] He was named mayor by the Cambridge City Council and sworn in on January 1,2018,succeeding E. Denise Simmons. [4] In January 2020,he announced that he would not seek re-election as mayor and endorsed fellow councilmember Sumbul Siddiqui as his successor. [2] Siddiqui was sworn in as mayor on January 6,2020. [6]
David Scott Mann is an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as the United States representative for Ohio's 1st congressional district from 1993 to 1995. He also served as a member of the Cincinnati City Council from 2013 to 2022 and from 1974 to 1992,during which time he served as mayor of Cincinnati from 1980 to 1982 and again in 1991. Mann ran in the 2021 Cincinnati mayoral election,but lost to Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Aftab Pureval.
Timothy J. Toomey Jr. was the Massachusetts State Representative for the 26th Middlesex District,which comprises East Cambridge and East Somerville,and a member of the Cambridge City Council. He served as a state representative from 1993 to 2016 and has served as a city councillor since 1990. Toomey has also served as a member of the Cambridge School Committee and vice mayor of Cambridge. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has run as a Democrat for the office of state representative;Cambridge City Council elections are,however,non-partisan.
E. Denise Simmons is the mayor of Cambridge,Massachusetts,having served her first mayoral term 2008–2009,her second mayoral term 2016–2017,and her third mayoral term 2024–present. She is the first openly lesbian African-American mayor in the United States. Simmons has been on the Cambridge City Council continuously since 2002,now serving her twelfth consecutive term.

Siddiqui was elected mayor in 2020 by the Cambridge City Council,after serving in the body for three years. She succeeded Marc C. McGovern in January 2020,becoming the first Muslim mayor in Massachusetts history.
