The delegation sent by the Malta Olympic Committee consisted of six athletes: sprinters Nikolai Portelli and Charlene Attard, light-middleweight judoka Marcon Bezzina, double trap shooter William Chetcuti and short-distance swimmers Ryan Gambin and Madeleine Scerri.

She lost to eventual gold medalist Eri Tosaka in her first match. Because Tosaka reached the gold medal round, Eshimova took part in the repechage. She beat Haley Augello in the first round of the repechage, but lost to Sun Yanan in her bronze medal match.

A legal dispute threatened to prevent Tynybekova from competing in London, but the case was delayed until after the Games. Tynybekova was eliminated in the 1/8 finals by Henna Johansson.
Nasiba Salayeva-Surkiyeva is a Turkmenistan judoka, who competed in the middleweight and half-heavyweight categories. Surkieva made her official debut for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she competed in the women's 78 kg class. She lost the first preliminary match to China's Tang Lin, who eventually won the gold medal in the finals. She offered another shot for the bronze medal through the repechage bouts, where she was defeated by Mongolia's Rambuugiin Dashdulam in the first round.

She is the only Indian woman wrestler to win multiple medals at the World Wrestling Championships. Phogat became the first Indian athlete to be nominated for Laureus World Sports Awards in 2019.

She held a 2007 Russian senior title for her own division, picked up a total of seventeen medals in her career, including a bronze from the European Championships, and finished seventh in the 57-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout most of her sporting career, Yukhareva trained as a full-fledged member of the judo squad for SKA St. Petersburg, under her personal coach, father, and sensei Sergey Yukharev.
Eleanor Bezzina is a Maltese sports shooter. She competed in the women's 10 metre air pistol event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Women's 10 m air pistol and Women's 25 m pistol.
