Marcos Churio (born 4 October 1900 [1] ) was an Argentine professional golfer.

In the sport of golf, the distinction between amateurs and professionals is rigorously maintained. An amateur who breaches the rules of amateur status may lose their amateur status. A golfer who has lost their amateur status may not play in amateur competitions until amateur status has been reinstated; a professional may not play in amateur tournaments unless the Committee is notified, acknowledges and confirms the participation. It is very difficult for a professional to regain their amateur status; simply agreeing not to take payment for a particular tournament is not enough. A player must apply to the governing body of the sport to have amateur status reinstated.

Churio was born in Mar del Plata. He turned professional in 1920, and competed in Europe between 1931 and 1939, where his best tournament finish was 5th place in the 1931 Southport Open in England. That year, he was 7th in the British Open at Carnoustie. [2]

The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open, or the British Open is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club, Scotland, before evolving to being rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom, under the authority of the R&A.
Carnoustie Golf Links is in Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland. Carnoustie boasts four courses - the historic Championship Course, the Burnside Course, the Buddon Links Course and a free-to-play short, five-hole course called The Nestie. Carnoustie Golf Links is one of the venues in the Open Championship rotation and has hosted golf's oldest major on eight occasions, as well as the Senior Open Championship in 2010 and 2016 and the Women's British Open in 2011.
Churio's brother, Pedro, won several tournaments in Argentina and later designed many golf courses. His nephew, Martin Pose, won the French Open in 1939.

The Open de France is a European Tour golf tournament. Inaugurated in 1906 it is the oldest national open in Continental Europe and has been part of the European Tour's schedule since the tour's inception in 1972. The 100th edition of the event was held in 2016.
Churio won the Argentine Open in three decades, in 1926, 1934 and 1943. He also finished runner-up on six occasions, in 1928, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1936 and 1937.
The Argentine Open or Abierto de la República or Abierto de Argentina is one of the oldest national golf open championships. First played in 1905, when it was called the Open Championship of the River Plate, it has featured numerous notable winners including major champions Jimmy Demaret (1941), Lloyd Mangrum (1946), Tom Weiskopf (1979), Craig Stadler (1992), Mark Calcavecchia, Mark O'Meara (1994) and Jim Furyk (1997).
