Margaret Abela (born 14 March 1949) is the wife of the 8th President of the Republic of Malta,George Abela and hence served as First Lady of Malta during his tenure. [1]
She started her elementary education with the Franciscan nuns at the Pilar School in Valletta,she completed her primary education at St. Elmo Primary School and her secondary education at Maria Assunta Secondary and Technical School in Ħamrun.
On completing her studies,she worked on a full-time basis in the administration department of the Old University of Malta in Valletta,and later on at Tal-Qroqq,Msida.
After she got married,she carried out administrative work at the Abela Advocates law firm run by her husband and subsequently also by her son,Robert Abela.
She married George Abela on 23 May 1976 and had two children,Robert and Maria. [2] Robert Abela was sworn in as the 14th Prime Minister of Malta on 13 January 2020. [3]
For years,she was socially involved in the Tarxien Parish community,where she used to give catechism lessons to children preparing for their First Holy Communion.
The politics of Malta takes place within a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic,whereby the president of Malta is the constitutional head of state. Executive authority is vested in the president of Malta,with the general direction and control of the Government of Malta remaining with the prime minister of Malta,who is the head of government and the cabinet. Legislative power is vested in the Parliament of Malta,which consists of the president of Malta and the unicameral House of Representatives of Malta with the speaker as the presiding officer of the legislative body. Judicial power remains with the chief justice and the judiciary of Malta. Since independence,the party electoral system has been dominated by the Christian democratic Nationalist Party and the social democratic Labour Party.

Education in Malta is compulsory through age sixteen and is offered through three different providers:the state,the church,and the private sector. The state is responsible for promoting education and instruction and ensuring universal access to education for all Maltese citizens the existence of a system of schools and institutions accessible to all Maltese citizens. The objectives of education in Malta include intellectual and moral development and the preparation of every citizen to contribute productively to the national economy. Although Maltese citizens had access to education during the Arab administration of 870 to 1090,the arrival of a number of religious orders in the following four centuries brought religious-based education to the island for wealthy families. The arrival of the Knights Hospitaller saw the establishment of the University of Malta,around which a number of primary,secondary and post-secondary institutions were established. Education in Malta has been universally available at the primary level since the ejection of the Knights Hospitaller by the French in 1798,when state-funded elementary schooling was established. In 1878,English replaced Italian as the primary language of instruction,and education was made compulsory in 1946 in response to a number of children not attending school due to poverty between World Wars One and Two. The age at which education became compulsory was lowered to five years in 1988
Emmanuel Mallia is a Maltese politician. He was the Minister for Home Affairs and National Security of the Republic of Malta. Following an alleged "cover-up" within his ministry,he was removed from office by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat on 9 December 2014 and replaced by Carmelo Abela. In 2016,Mallia returned to the cabinet as Minister for Competitiveness and Digital,Maritime and Services Economy,a portfolio which he retained until the 2017 general election. Mallia remained an MP in the Maltese Parliament until 2021,when he resigned to become Malta's UK High Commissioner.
Christopher Fearne is a Maltese physician and politician. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Health in April 2014 and Minister for Health since April 2016. In July 2017,the Labour Party elected him as Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs,thus assuming the role of Deputy Prime Minister of Malta and Leader of the House.
Justyne Caruana is a Maltese lawyer,politician,former Minister for Gozo and former Minister for Education. She was appointed on 9 June 2017 in the second cabinet of Joseph Muscat and reconfirmed by new Prime Minister Robert Abela before resigning one week later on 20 January 2020 and replaced with Clint Camilleri. After 11 months,she was re-appointed to Cabinet on 23 November 2020 as the new Minister for Education by Robert Abela. She then resigned from Minister for Education on 22 December 2021.

Malta has traditionally held close and friendly relations with the Palestinian people ever since Malta's attainment of Independence on 21 September 1964. Robert Abela is a Maltese lawyer and politician who has served as prime minister of Malta and leader of the Malta Labour Party since 2020. The son of former President George Abela,he was elected to Parliament in 2017. Abela was sworn in as prime minister following the resignation of Joseph Muscat on 13 January 2020.
