Margaret Ann Jones was an American philanthropist and businesswoman. She was a founding member of Guam Memorial Hospital Volunteers Association (GMHVA) and a treasurer of Triple J Enterprises in Guam.

Biography

On November 5, 1937, Jones was born in Willow Spring, North Carolina. Jones' parents were Early and Verna Page. [1]

In 1965, Jones became a founding member of Guam Memorial Hospital Volunteers Association (GMHVA), a non-profit organization known as the Pink Ladies, in Guam. As of 2015, GMHVA had already raised over $8 million for improvements to Guam’s only public hospital. [2] [3] [4]

In 1968, Jones started her work career at the Marianas Travel Agency, the first travel agency in Guam. [5] In 1973, Jones worked in inventory and buying with Eileen Kershaw, Inc, a Guam fine jewelry and gift shop owned by Carolyn "Elaine" Faria and her Faria family, in Guam. [5] [6]

In 1975, Jones became a special sales representative for Pan American Airlines, until it was sold in 1991. [5] In 1984, Jones became a co-founder and treasurer of Triple J Enterprises in Guam. Jones handled buying, advertising and public relations. By 2005, Triple J Enterprises was the fourth largest business in Micronesia. [2] [7]

Jones was involved with American Cancer Society. Jones was also involved with fundraising for cancer research and prevention. [3]

Awards

2018 Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented by First Hawaiian Bank and Guam Business Magazine. [5] [8]

Personal life

In the 1960s, Jones moved from Raleigh, North Carolina to Guam. [5]

Jones' husband was Robert H. Jones, who became the CEO and chairman of Triple J Enterprises Inc in Guam. They had three children. [2] [5]

Jones' son Jeffery Jones became the president and chief operating officer of Triple J Enterprises. Jones' son Jay Jones became senior vice president of Triple J Enterprises with a focus on automotive operations. Jones' daughter Julie Jones Murrell became a professional counselor. [9]

Jones was a cancer survivor. [3]

On June 27, 2019, Jones died in North Carolina. [2] [1]

Legacy

In 2020, the Jones family donated $31.5k to GMH Volunteers in Jones' memory. [10]

Northern Marianas College (NMC) is a public land-grant college in the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). The college was founded in Susupe in 1976. The Northern Mariana Islands national football team represents the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in international men's football. The team is controlled by the governing body for football in the Northern Mariana Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, which is a member of the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) and since December 2020 a full member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The association is not a member of the world governing body FIFA, although it had applied for membership, and so while the national team is eligible to enter AFC and EAFF-run competitions, they are currently ineligible for global competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. As such, they do not have an official FIFA ranking. However, the team have been consistently ranked as one of the worst teams in the world on the Elo ratings and were in fact, in July 2016 rated as the worst men's senior international team in the world in a ratings system that also includes a number of other non-FIFA teams. Following the completion of the preliminary qualifying round for the 2017 EAFF East Asian Cup the team have won only one official competitive match against international opposition and have a goal difference of −78 in official matches. The team have never qualified for the finals of a major tournament and beyond friendlies and qualifying matches, their only official competition has been in an exhibition tournament in the regional Micronesian Games in 1998, which they won, to date their only tournament success.

Willow Spring is an unincorporated community in southeastern Wake, and western Johnston counties, North Carolina, United States, which is covered by a shared post office. Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, formerly Children's Memorial Hospital and commonly known as Lurie Children's, is a nationally ranked pediatric acute care children's hospital located in Chicago, Illinois. The hospital has 360 beds and is affiliated with the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The hospital provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties to infants, children, teens, and young adults aged 0–21 throughout Illinois and surrounding regions. Lurie Children's also sometimes treats adults that require pediatric care. Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago also features a state designated Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, one of four in the state.
